asazumi tomato

What to do when the humidity is so thick outside? Take out a "cool" treat.

This is made by Seikanin, a Japanese confectioner in Kyoto.

It is called Asazumi tomato because it is supposed to resemble a freshly harvested tomato that is ripened in the sun. The second ingredient on the label is tomato and boy! was there a nice tomato flavor--a little tart but still tomato-y. The outside is made from kuzu (arrowroot/kudzu) mixed with peach and mango juice. The sweetness from both of these flavors fades in the background to the tomato flavor when eaten together.

Very refreshing!

we are just out of a two day humid hot spell. Was awful! I woke up this am with a fresh breeze and felt like breathing again! Are summers humid everywhere in Japan?

Hi Bea,
The only part of Japan that isn't humid in summer is Hokkaido, which is close to Russia! Glad to hear you have the breezes, I won't be able to feel those until October!
Take care.

Kat,

That is the COOLEST thing I've seen in a very long time. I love how it looks when you cut into it.

Wow, what a unique dessert. I'm not sure about the tomato flavor, but it does sound refreshing.

Thanks Ivonne!

The tomato flavor would be hard to imagine in a dessert, but it was really good, IAJB!

Take care you two.

oh my god, looks really good, Kat :) I'd definitely love this in the summertime. The translucent part looks like some sort of konyaku jelly yea ? Where's the recipe, btw ?

Sorry Melting Wok, I didn't make this, so I don't have a recipe for it. The translucent part is made from kuzu (kudzu/arrowroot).

Take care.
