yukigesho

Sometimes I come across interesting things at the market...like this pumpkin, it was called "yukigesho"

"Yuki" is snow, and "gesho" is "make-up"...literally "made-up with snow" or "covered with snow".

The outer peel is whitish, but when cooked does get darker green.

The taste wasn't different from any other pumpkin I've had but I'm glad we got to try this.

Have you been trying anything interesting this winter?

Looks interesting! Seems like a variety of kabocha? I've been using kabocha in many dinners this week... but maybe it's time to switch things up. :)

I've seen pumpkins with that coloring but have no idea what specific name they're called. I can always find the kabocha pumpkin though.
