Saturday the weather was beautiful and sunny with a nip in the air.
Satoshi and I headed to our favorite neighborhood cafe, Hiro for some breakfast and also shared something sweet.
"Fraises"--a pistachio dacquoise cake with cream, strawberries and pistachios. I loved how bright this cake looked and tasted, it was like it said, "Spring is coming".
After breakfast, we walked back home and came across this shih tzu. She/he looked kinda sad, don't you think?
We stopped at Makiochi Hachimangu. Hachimangu are temples where you go to pray for good test scores and or good grades.
Because it was a Saturday, there was a group of pre-schoolers walking around the property.
I am not too sure, but I think on Saturdays a lot of places have day-care because most parents work on Saturdays here.
The Japanese work week goes from Monday-Saturday, crazy yeah?
A beautiful tsubaki (camellia). I loved how the petals were kind of frilly.
And to leave you with something to smile about...you should know that this dog trainer doesn't train anything but dogs...
p.s. Today's the 1st of March but we've been having rain, the cold is back and are expecting some snow (?) at the end of the week. Mother Nature is having fun with us I'm sure...

Eh, how you stay so slim with all the cakes, pastries, etc. that you induldge in?
That cake...awesome, for lack of a better word. I wish we could've spent our Saturday (it was great) doing fun stuff but the car had to go to the doctor (the one junk thing about owning one!).
What a darling doggie...
Does his mistress know about Training Hatch?
Perhaps the trainer can teach the dog to cook or knit and stay away from the doorway feeling depressed :)
I wish I were slim, Nate :p
ah the car maintenance...not fun Rowena.
I agree PB :)
Take care everyone.

Mmm...that pistachio cake looks delicious.
It's pouring down rain this afternoon here--although still February. ;-)
Delicious looking cake and very middle eastern with the pistachios.
It is pouring here too Deb in Hawaii, stay warm :)
Thanks J-A, it was a nice match.
Take care you two.

I just wanted to say a quick hello and thank-you. I've just moved to Akita City from North Carolina and I've been looking for good sources on Japanese cooking as I'm really excited about trying all the (currently) unrecognizable foods in my local supermarket; your blog is one of the best sources that popped up in my searching. Thanks for the entertaining and informative resource, happy adventuring.
Heather
aw thanks Heather, I hope you enjoy your stay in Japan and also enjoy the various foods in your area.
Take care and if you ever have questions, don't hesitate to email :)
