pigs in a blanket

The weather here has cooled a bit, but the humid...ugh, is still lingering...

Today, I continue to experiment with the recipe for butter rolls...in the previous experiment I added Italian seasoning to the dough and today have added a hot dog.

We used to have something like this on our school lunch menu and it was called "pig in a blanket" (I think this is self-explanatory), but it never tasted as good as this one!

  1. Though I've never actually seen pigs in blankets (literally, or the foodstuff), these little hot dog rolls are absolutely adorable!

  2. I've never seen them literally either Ellie, next time you make bread maybe you could give it a try. Really good and simple too :)

    Take care.

  3. Wow Kat that pic brings back so much memories of school! The bakery that I worked at also makes them but they're called 'Frankies' instead. I guess maybe to address the "adult" crowd, who no doubt wanted Frankies because they reminded them of their hannah-buttah pig-in-the-blanket days!

  4. Glad I stirred up some memories of school, Rowena! :) I really used to like the ones at school. The bakeries here have an "original" name for them here...weiner roll...

    Take care!

  5. Hey Kat!

Boy those remind me so much of school. The bakery in my area makes those pig in the blankets with cheese in them too. :o) So ONO!!!

  7. I stumbled upon your blog while looking for a recipe for Chinsuko and I have to say WOW! I love it!! Now about the pigs in a blanket... you have the gourmet version. My mom used to make these with hotdogs and Pillsbury biscuit dough. Or the little smoked sausages... Little Smokies. Thanks for the great blog!
