After seeing Nate's post, I wanted a B.L.T. too, so when I went to the supermarket I picked some up.
Japanese bacon is actually more like ham, totally disappointing. Doesn't get crispy. (Anyone living on Honshu that has a great crispy bacon brand, please let me know what you are using. I'd really like to try it.)
At least Nate had sent me some Best Foods mayonnaise (Thanks Nate!). The sandwich actually reminded me of ham sandwiches after Thanksgiving or Christmas, so I think I'll call it an H.L.T. rather than a B.L.T.
And while I'm on the topic of sandwiches, check out this sign...I don't know that I would want to eat a sand witch. would you? I can't believe these people paid for this sign....
Kat, I can't believe with your wide circle of friends you don't know anyone who can shop at the military commissaries (military grocery stores) in Japan for you. They will have, at the very least, yummy Oscar Mayer CRISPY style bacon for you to enjoy. It doesn't necessarily have to be someone in the miliary; I believe U.S. government employees (such as an embassy employee) can also shop at the commisaries. Hope this helps in your quest for crispy bacon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anonymous. I do have a friend who can shop on base, but shipping will be very pricey, so I haven't asked. Thanks for your tip though, it really helped. I think I'll try the gourmet supermarkets soon.
ReplyDeleteTake care and hope you visit again.
Kat
Still looks very tasty!
ReplyDeleteThe bacon in the Japanese McDonald's Egg/Bacon McMuffin is kinda thin, but it's like only half cooked. Don't know why they like it like that.
By the way, it's hot here. Hit 93 this afternoon. And it's 87 now at 9:30 or so at night.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nate. I think I know what kind of bacon you are talking about. I don't know why they like it like that either.
ReplyDeleteYipes! 87F that is hot!
I think we only went to 86F today. The low is supposed to be around 68F or so. Weird, yeah?!
Take care.

Sand witch? Kinda cute, and me being such a food monkey, I'd probably check it out...heh heh.
ReplyDeleteThere's one store here that sells "american bacon" which I actually LOVE because it's mostly meat and not so much of the fat! It fries up nice and crispy with great flavor. Hmmm...I'll have to report on that one day.
P.S. I am jealous that you can find wintermelon. Another fave veggie that I miss from Hawaii!
H.L.T. yep Japanese bacon is so different from what I am used to. At least you had the Best Foods! Have a great day! It's supposed to hit 89F today at least the trades are here for the whole week.
ReplyDeleteI hope I can find some "american" bacon around here, Rowena. I should have dried the seeds from the wintermelon and sent you some, or is that a no-no?
ReplyDeleteWow, 89F today in Hawaii. Thank goodness for the trades, Laura.
Take care you two.
Kat
Stay 94 degrees right now in Mihama at 5:30 pm. Blazing sun too.
ReplyDeleteyipes! that is hot, Nate! it is 89F in our apartment.
