it's autumn, right?

The days surely don't feel like autumn, I'm talking low 80's (26C) during the daytime. Oh well, I shouldn't grumble, at least there is no humidity.

Since there isn't much happening in my kitchen, I thought I'd share with you some new things I came upon.

Haagen Dazs came out with 2 limited edition flavors--Bitter Caramel and Noisette Chocolat. The Bitter caramel was smooth and creamy, not sure why they called it bitter because it wasn't. The other flavor was Noisette Chocolat, a hazelnut ice cream swirled with dark chocolate ice cream. Both were delicious.

In the beer department, Kirin came out with a stout. It wasn't smokey in taste, but it was very dark and easy to drink.

And to round everything out, there was Koshu grapes. These were a let down--not sweet at all. Plus the skins were tough and bitter and there were tons of seeds.

Oh, well, 3 out of 4 isn't so bad. Hope your week is going well.

  3. That's about the price off-base. Expensive! Never really looked on-base cause I can't handle milk products in my old age. You know, lactose intolerant now. I'll check the price when I go to the commissary on Saturday.

  4. Nate,
I guess it is expensive, but I thought it was also rather expensive in Hawaii too.

    Take care.

  5. Haagen Daz! Hey, did you know/hear about the new Reserve flavor? Hawaiian Lehua Honey? That too, sounds just yummy-licious. I think the only Haagen Daz that we get here are the regular flavors...nothing like what you got but I'll definitely check the ice cream section tonight!

  6. I saw that on Hapa Hale's blog, Rowena. I don't think that flavor will make its way over here, I think I gotta look for it the next time I'm home. Sounds good though. A couple of months back there was Affogato flavor, I should see if they still have it in the stores. I hope you guys have more interesting flavors in Italy than just the standard ones.

    Take care.

  8. Checked the commissary this morning - regular flavors of Haagen Dazs are $2.59 for a 16 ounce container! Special flavors might break $3!

32 ounce containers of regular are $3.59!

Though not frsh and shipped from the U.S. it's so cheap! Guess I'd better buy some Lactaid pills so I can enjoy.

  10. Trouble is I can only buy in the U.S. Never have it here. Though the commissary does sell Lactaid milk. Don't think I could survive without milk. Have loved milk since a small kid.

  11. Nate, Do you buy the Lactaid milk? Does it taste different from regular milk? I don't think I could drink Lactaid milk.

    Take care.

  14. I really like the bitter caramel flavour. I agree it's not exactly bitter, but I guess the name is to distinguish it from the regular caramel flavour, which I find sickly sweet.

  15. Hi Amy,
I was wondering if they called it bitter for the same reason they call dark chocolate bitter? hmmm....I haven't tried the regular caramel flavor but can imagine how sweet it would be.

    Take care.
