I find that in Japan, you need to find out about places to eat or shops by kuchikomi (word of mouth). This usually makes business very challenging and most places end up going out of business in no time.
If your shop is featured in a magazine or on a tv show then the "word" travels faster. You may even be overwhelmed by the increase in business.
I found out about Kamuro while walking around a department store's basement food area in Umeda. The thing about Kamuro is that its main shop is in Minoo (right in my area and I didn't know about it!).
This little shop is located on the same street as my ob-gyn. The name comes from putting two things together, the sweets maker's name (MURO) and beautiful (KA) together. His shop concept is that everyone should have beautiful sweets on their table.
We bought several items then took them to Suigetsu Park to enjoy them.
The mitarashi dango--600 yen (about US$6.00). Usually mitarashi dango is skewered and grilled, but Kamuro's version is off the stick and chilled...easy to eat and very refreshing.
We also bought warabi mochi with an (sweet bean paste) in it 350 yen (about US$3.50). This was really delicious, soft warabi mochi filled with koshian (smooth sweet bean paste). Powdered with kinako (powdered soy bean). I think this would also be great chilled.
While in the store these dorayaki (the picture up at the top) also caught my eye--180 yen (about US$1.80). The slightly sweet pancakes are filled with tsubuan (chunky sweet bean paste) and a huge kuri (chestnut). The pancakes were very moist and the tsubuan had just the right amount of sweetness.
I think when we are walking around this area, we'll be back.
