Today is Umi no hi (Ocean Day), here in Japan. It is a national holiday. It is a day to thank the ocean for its blessings (seafood), and to wish for the prosperity of Japan which is surrounded by the sea.
Unfortunately, most of the oceans near mainland Japan do not look beautiful like the ones in New Caledonia. In fact, I was once really shocked to see the waters near Osaka harbor--greyish, black...eww! What can I say, I was spoiled growing up in Hawaii.
Hope you are enjoying Summer.
Good morning Kat,
ReplyDeletehaving being brought up in a home by the sea I don't really miss it (-I have the Kamo River for my running waters fix). That is, I don't miss it until Summer when I wish I could just throw on my togs and run down the garden and throw myself into the cool waters whenever I feel the need to cool down.
Enough teasing myself. I think a trip to Hozukyo will have to happen and soon.

Lovely picture! Enjoy the holiday!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea for a holiday - wish we had it here! :)
ReplyDeleteThis holiday would really go well in Hawaii, Lori & Laura :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband said that the Kamo river used to have less weeds in the middle, Tamakikat. Still, you are very lucky to be so close to running waters :)
Take care everyone.

Wish you a happy Umi no hi.. hope one day you would visit Mexico for a lovely evening at any of Mexican beaches..
ReplyDeleteThanks Chakra, hope you get a chance to visit New Caledonia or Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteTake care.

hehe, I think anyone who was lucky enough to grow up in Hawai'i is spoiled for the majority of oceans in the world! ^_^ Every time I see the grey-black oceans on the mainland, I can't help but think how much I took Hawai'i for granted!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful holiday to have! I hope you have a great time.
ReplyDeleteIn a few months I will be staring at the ocean every day! I finally locked in a good price!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, Kathy, you don't know how good you had it until you see the oceans on the mainland. I remember once we went to a beach in California and we had tar on our feet...blah.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kirkk!
You so lucky, Rowena :) Enjoy.
Take care everyone!
