cafe la boheme

Saturday, Satoshi had to work, so I met him in Umeda for dinner.

I've seen this restaurant from the train and have often wondered what kind of food they served.

Cafe La Boheme is an Italian restaurant. The open kitchen mixed with chatter was quite loud. Satoshi couldn't believe how loud it was. I was telling him since we don't eat out much for dinner, this was probably the norm.

I had a glass of Puig Cuvee Afters Rouge, a dry red which I saw them pour from a box. It was delicious.

We ordered the Gado Gado salad (not sure what that means) 950 yen (about US$9.50) It turned out to be a warm salad with sweet potato, lettuce, asparagus, tomato, okra and a warm peanut dressing. The waitress brought the salad, and I readied my point and shoot, she then doused it with the dressing and mixed it up, I gasped and was a bit disappointed I couldn't take a photo of it before it got all mixed--definite sign of a food blogger.

The pizza we ordered was the La Boheme mixed pizza 1100 yen (about US$11). The pizza was delicious, the crust was a bit doughy for my liking, but the topping was just right, not the type that slides off as you eat it, and flavorful.

We also ordered pasta called desperato, 1100 yen (about US$11), this was with made with 7 vegetables, anchovies & capers. It was more of a meat sauce with specks of veggies here and there, no evidence of the capers or anchovy. There was a lot of garlic and cheese...it was delicious.

It was a great dinner, though a bit noisy, but everything was good.

I never have a problem with pizza, because I always use a fork and knife, LOL. I am terrible! It sounds delicious!

There's an Italian restaurant in town that someone just told me was really loud. They thought it was because of the building materials used (hard tile floors, etc.)...and the abundance of alcohol!

I usually end up using my fork and knife when it slides off Lynne :)

Okay, that may be it Lori, the floors were wood and the ceiling kind of high, and there was lots of alcohol too :)

Take care you two.

I loved the first picture with the wine glasses-absolutely beautiful. I have decided to make that salad you mentioned. It sounds delicious, and any excuse to eat sweet potatoes is fine with me!!!

As a child I never had problems with the top sliding off, because my pizza was usually a two course meal: the top, then the leftover pizza sauce on the crust! I have since then taken to using fork and knife as well! I figured no one wanted to watch an adult eating her ONE piece of pizza in two sections!

everything looks delicious! the place looks rather trendy - was it? and the wine was poured out of a box? i hope they didn't mark it up much.

That's interesting that Italian restaurant had Gado Gado which is popular Indonesian salad - cooked veggies, tofu, boiled egg, etc.. with peanut sauce. I have no idea what direct translation would be. Thanks for sharing your dining experience. That pizza looks like deep dish...and does look really doughy.

Thanks Sheri :)

Glass of wine from box was 450 yen, Grace, glass of wine from bottle was double that price.

That is interesting, H, thanks for sharing :)

Take care everyone.

The pizza does look a bit doughy but both dishes look really good. Sounds like a great dinner minus the chatter. :o)

I was also going to mention that Gado Gado was an Indonesian type salad. Did it go well with your entree? Sometimes the most seemingly disparate things go well together.

And I hope the two of you had a nice, romantic stroll home along that tree lined avenue. (Cue violin music)
