This post is the 1000th...wow! I don't think I've ever kept a diary this long. (have you?)

To celebrate and as a thank you to my readers, I want to give a box of stuff to one reader.

Just tell me which post of the 1000 was your favorite?

You have until January 16, 2009 (Friday), 10:00 pm (Japan time) to comment.

UPDATE:the person who won this giveaway no longer has a blog so I can't link to show you what was in the box.

  1. September 08, 2006. You featured a few delicious frozen desserts that I would love to try, since I'm an ice cream addict.

  3. I love all the entries, but I really enjoyed the entry on Thursday October 23rd, 2008. The pictures of the delectable-looking food and the pictures of Kyoto caught my eye right away. The food looks delicious and quaint, as well as the wagashi, macaroons, and tsukudani! The pictures and your wonderful description inspire me to go Kyoto and drink tea and nibble on wagashi. Hopefully, I can go someday soon! :)

  4. Congrats on your 1000th post! I can't pick just one post, but my favorites have been all of the ones that have helped me learn more about my new life here - like the sweet spots in the apples and the wires in the windows!

  5. Favorite post? Wow, where to begin...
This is my first time posting, but I've been an avid reader ever since I stumbled upon your blog. I always enjoy reading your culture shock posts because as a Japanese woman who was born and raised in America, I've had comparable experiences in the past when traveling to Japan (especially the ob-gyn one...). I love your Umeda posts because my father is from Osaka (Takatsuki to be specific) and I've wandered Umeda so many times. But my absolute, favorite post of the year was the one ("Funny Foodie Wednesday") that had the picture of the menu of a Japanese restaurant that attempted to translate its dishes into English (gotta love "combustion eggplant"). Thank you for all the smiles, drooling, and nostalgia you gave me, 2009nen mo ganbatte kudasai :)

  6. Suosdei from Cambodia!
I found my way here when I was looking for Japanese food recipes, and I must that I really like your blog. I was in Japan in 2006 and stayed in Kiyosato for sometime and had the famous hoto noodles of which Kiyosato is so known-for. I hope you will also feature hoto noodles - if you have already (please forgive my ignorance as I am a newbie here) I'd be happy to go back to your archives.

Can I link your blog to mine? Thanks a lot.

  7. Kat-
Thinking back to your posts, I think my favorite two were the May 20, 2008 post on homemade kakimochi or your September 26, 2008 post about the eclairs and macarons. They looked so yummy!

  8. The photos from Nov 25th were gorgeous! I would have to say I liked that one for pure aesthetic reasons. I couldn't really pick one, but I love all the beautiful cappuccino pictures too. Those are some beautiful coffees.

  9. My favorite post is the one from April 6, 2008. I know it must have been a hard post for you to write because the death of a loved one is so personal. Thanks for sharing it.

  12. Congratulations Kat! I would have to say my favorite posts are the descriptions of what happened on your climb of Mt. Fiji. That was an awesome experience and a challenging one too! Here's to another 1000 more posts!

  13. Now you have me curious on what number I'm at. I think it's around the 600th, more or less.

I'd enter the giveaway but you know my beef with the italian post. The stuff from Tamakikat is probably lost in customs land by now. Still, my favorite was the post on Mt. Fuji.

    One day, one day!!

  14. It would be hard to pinpoint my favourite, but one particular one stands out - 20 July, 2008 - about the dark chocolate Guinness muffins. Anything with Guinness in it is wonderful in my book!

I also like reading your 'culture shock' posts, as something similar happens to me - I'm an American living in England.

    Congrats on 1,000 posts!

  15. I started reading your blog around July '08. And I have to say that I really can't pick one because it is so hard to choose which one I like! There are too many of them. Although the highlighted ones are Sand Dunes, Guam and definitely the adorable mochi! Keep the posts rolling in! =) Happy 1000 posts!

  16. My favorite post is Foodie Friday in Kyoto on Saturday, November 22, 2008. You described what I would describe as my perfect day! Meeting with a friend for tea and lunch in dreary weather, and exploring a beautiful city in radiant weather! I am hoping that I can have such a day when my husband and I come to visit Japan. We are planning on staying in Kyoto, so this post gave me a renewed excitement about visiting Japan. I am also a tea connoisseur, so the thought of taking tea in Japan is awesome! This was my favorite phrase from the post: "It was a great day, lots of chatting, lots of noshing and lots of good tea." Thank you for giving me a glance into a beautiful afternoon!

  17. Congrats on the 1000th post! I look forward to reading your new posts during the week.

Trick question- def couldn't pick just one! I do like the Starbucks ones because I like the variety at Starbucks in Japan more than here in the US, makes me a bit nostalgic. Also, anything to do with Japanese sweets!!

  21. I'm in agreement with quite a few others that it is quite difficult to pick a "favorite" post, because I've enjoyed each one that I've read.

I'll go ahead and pick 29 Dec 2008 because its my BIL's birthdate, LOL and I found the post on "Hesokuri" very interesting. It brought new meaning to "mad money" lol. I'm sorry though that you lost your pin money.

  23. Wow, I've been reading this blog for over a year now! I started reading it when I was homesick my first year of college...I loved all your posts about Hawaii! I wonder why FOOD was the first thing I thought of when I thought of home? Haha. So I don't think I can pick one post of yours that was my favorite...I have to go with all the Hawaii posts. Thank you so much for sharing your pictures and stories!

  24. Yay for 1000 posts! Wishing you another easy 1000.

My favourite were all the fancy pastries from the French Festival you attended in September. But I love all the sweets you photograph and taste test for us. Keep going!

  25. Wow 1000 posts! I have a long way to catch up! I have so enjoyed your blog--first by lurking for awhile and then by starting my own and sharing comments back and forth. Being a Libra, I can't pick one post i liked best but I loved a lot of July and August of this year mainly the ones where you have nature shots and food shots combined like Aug. 4th & 8th at Minoo Park, and July 22 at Mizunomori and especially the flowers at Banpaku Koen on July 18th. You pictures and hearing about all the places you see and food you try is so interesting! Here's to 1000 more!

  26. i have loved reading all about your trips- i loved reading about your climb of mount fiji, it was really inspiring (and made me feel pretty lazy!) i loved their idea of stamping your walking stick as you climbed- you must have been so proud of yourselves. I enjoy reading your day-to-day posts about food, but the trips are really special to read about, and give that little extra insight to life in japan
