How is the weather where you are? We've been having some gloomy weather--clouds, winds and rain. Being from Hawaii, I really think I need some sun to generate energy within myself.
Anyway, we saw this eclair on a television program. This eclair has custard and whipped cream. It is called the W cream eclair...and it is only 150 yen (about US$1.50). It isn't too sweet, probably from the dark chocolate on the outside.
If you are in Japan, you can find it at Family Mart. Be warned though, it is quite popular and I've heard that some Family Marts have sold out.
mmm, looks yummy. i wish i could pick up an eclair at family mart but i'm not in japan. boo.
ReplyDeletebut looking at the photo, it reminds me of the eclairs i used to eat as a kid - sometimes, my Mom and i would walk to Victoria Pastry Co. and she'd buy me an eclair as a treat on our way home from grocery shopping in Chinatown.
the weather is yucky here in SF. rain and more rain but since we're in a drought, i'm not complaining. great post, Kat!
Our eclairs or "boston creme" donuts look similar with exception they do not include "whip cream". I used to eat those as a young thing quicker than a sneeze. Nowadays, they do seem too sweet. However, we have a local baker that makes "mini eclairs". They are just enough for a taste, but not too much to make one sick. I'm beginning to understand why people I know love living in Japan, lol. The food alone is interesting enough!
ReplyDeleteHi there Kat,
ReplyDeleteI saw Shinsuke(?) raving about these on TV too.
I definitely will give them a go.
BTW I really enjoyed the fish cakes on the weekend.
All the best to you for the week.
TK
I guess if you have a drought then rain is a good thing Grace, though I do understand how you feel :)
ReplyDeleteLynne, Most people say you need to spend at least a year in a place so that you can get a taste of all the seasons :)
Take care you two.
Kat
Yes yes they were on Shinsuke, Tamakikat, I hope you like them. Glad to hear you like the fish cakes too.
ReplyDeleteTake care.

It's 40°F and shaping up into a sunny day. Maddie and MrB are already giving me that look which says "Are we going for a walk?"
ReplyDeleteIs that eclair comparable to Beard Papa's creampuffs?
Rowena, Probably better than BP because it has the whipped cream and chocolate :) ooh it is cold where you are!!
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Kat
That is a lucious looking eclair. (And looks much better than anything from 7-Eleven here!) ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to make the greatest eclairs! And they were not rich, like some I've had, they were so perfect! You reminded me of some great childhood memories!!
ReplyDeleteSheri
ooh Deb, 7-eleven has eclairs in Hawaii? yum!
ReplyDeleteyou are so lucky that your mom used to make eclairs for you Sheri! I'm so jealous.
Take care you two.
Kat
oh, no, I have not seen them there at all. I just meant in general it looks better than anything I have seen at a convenience store here! ;-)
ReplyDeleteoh, I thought you had them there, Deb, hopefully soon :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Kat
I've never seen eclairs topped with whipped cream. They look ono.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the intense sweetness of a lot of American pastries, which is why I prefer to get mine from Asian bakeries. My husband is the same way. In fact, he avoids sweets altogether. I wish I could do that but my love for chocolate won't allow me. :)
Satoshi used to avoid sweets but is now totally hooked on them Jenster :) I would never give up chocolate either.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
