marzipan

Awhile back La Fuji Mama sent me a dark chocolate covered marzipan loaf because as she wrote in her note, "I just couldn't stand the thought of you never having tried marzipan before", she is so sweet!

Apparently the Japanese customs must have thought it was some kind of weapon though because they opened the package.

I enjoyed the marzipan, the ground almond and sugar paste had a hint of cherry flavor and sort of reminded me a little of coconut too. It was covered with dark chocolate, balancing everything out.

Thanks again for being so kind La Fuji Mama!

  2. We had two weddings - one in Florida and one in the UK two weeks later, and our UK wedding cake had a layer of marzipan - ooh, so delish! It's just not a big thing in the States, hey. And when we went to our godson's christening party in the UK, his parents got their top layer of their wedding cake down from their attic (he's their third child and it was ELEVEN years after their wedding), got it re-marzipanned and re-iced, and served it up at the party. It was amazingly good fruit cake! And the alcohol it had been steeping in all those years really mellowed and made it really nice. Nobody could believe it was that old! :)

  7. I just love marzipan! And, luckily for me, no one else in my family likes it, so when I get my hands on some I get to enjoy it all to myself.

I agree that marzipan is one of those foods that people either like or dislike. I've never met anyone who only "kind of" liked it.
