Unless Satoshi has a planned drinking thingy to go to after work, I make a musubi for him to take to work. He usually eats this at about 19:30 or 20:00 to tide him over until dinner (which depends on when he comes home from work, usually at about 22:00 or 23:00 or sometimes even later...)
Once he came home without having time to eat the musubi and the musubi wrapped in saran wrap being in his bag all day, it was flat, pancake flat.
So, I had been interested in finding a container that could be reused, maybe saving me from using a piece of saran wrap every day and would help the musubi keep its shape.
Then, I saw Pikko's blog and she had the perfect gadget. The holder I found was 750 yen (about US$7.50).
The musubi keeper holds a musubi and space for a little okazu (side dish). There is a plastic dividing cover to keep the okazu and musubi separate (see the first photo).
The musubi I made for Satoshi was bigger than what the makers of this keeper envisioned, so I didn't use the plastic dividing cover and just encased the musubi.
I hope the musubi doesn't dry out and it will be able to come out without sticking to the container...
UPDATE: Satoshi says that the container keeps the musubi intact and it doesn't stick to the container either, nor does it dry out...yeah!
Wow, another week has flown by...hope you have a great weekend!

What a nice wife you are! I love the musubi holder. Is it just me, or do the Japanese have a container for EVERYTHING? ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Elcynthia, isn't it a great widget??
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenster, I think they do have containers for everything, I tend to check to make sure they are made in Japan now since there were problems with some items from China.
Take care you two.

That is a great little container. My favourite (onigiri) was either filled with salmon of any type or ebi. Yum!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melanie, those fillings would be my husband's favorites too. Mine are ume and konbu.

Wow! Where did you find the nice plain black one? I followed the links on Pikko's blog but they were all very cutesy and pink or with animal faces. I carry musubi with me any time I have to travel (plane, train, boat) because the rice helps settle my stomach from the motion sickness. I'm very familiar with the squashed musubi slightly stuck to the saran wrap! : ) Did you order yours or find it nearby?
ReplyDeleteYes Manju, it was either this one or one with a cartoon face on it, Satoshi said we should choose the plain ones :) I found this at Vivre, a store in the AEON group. They are a chain supermarket.

どうぞよろしく。 Those little tins are so cute!
ReplyDeleteI read your blog on the musubi too. I must say. I really enjoy the little history on them. I always wonder why onigiris has the word oni in it. ^_^
I love these little snacks. I make them all the time and still there are never enough of them. I live with two guys with bottomless stomachs.
I was taught to make the roundish ones by the way. or I just roll them into a ball. I can never make the triangular shape right. ^_^
Thanks I am all that I am :) and thanks for stopping by!
