zippy's

Got up really early to meet up with my aunties and uncles on my father's side of the family.

The thing about Hawaii is that many businesses are open really early, so it is perfect to get an jump start on things. This is one thing I had to get used to in Japan because almost no businesses opens before 10:00 am.

So, we all met up at Zippy's, a local family eatery. It had been awhile since I'd eaten there for breakfast.

I chose the small portion hot cake sandwich, US$5.60 (I think). It came with 1 hot cake and your choice of meat, I chose portuguese sausage.

This was the perfect sized breakfast for me...and the best part, free refills on coffee (which is non-existent in Japan).

It was a nice chance to see my relatives and we all had lots to talk about.

UPDATE: I was reminded by my blog friend Martin, that Mr Donut offers coffee refills and that if you ask at some Japanese restaurants for another bowl of rice you often get them free.

  3. Looks like the perfect size!

Hey I keep forgetting to mention to you that the Friends of the Library Sale is going on at McKinley High School until the 28th. I have stopped myself from going so far and going nuts like I did last year, but I may lose my resolve and run by there this week!

  4. Thanks Deb! I knew about the sale and tried to time it so I would be here for it (after seeing your post on it last year), but with the restrictions in luggage weight, I've decided to not go, I hope you find some good books :)

    Take care.

  5. I love Zippy's! Whenever we visit my family in Hawaii we usually hit Zippys. Last time, we were so hungry after our flight into Honolulu, we drove straight from the airport to Zippy's and ate before going to my parents' condo.

Was there a Napoleon Bakery at the Zippy's you visited? I really like their Napples.

  9. Mr Donuts offers coffee refills in Japan! Nice gimmick.

Here, if you ask for "okawari" they will give you another (free) bowl of rice at most restaurants.
