köln

On a recent trip to the market, I found Köln's Chocoppe. 126 yen (about US$1.26) If you remember I tried some of their breads on a recent trip to Rokko.

Well, after that trip, I was surfing the web and found that their Chocoppe was quite popular.

Koppe pan is actually a made-up Japanese word apparently taken from "coupe" in French and "pao" in Portuguese.

This particular koppe pan was like french bread with a slather of dark sweet chocolate.

I've had something similar from
Isuzu bakery, theirs is called chocolate france. (The Japanese sometimes call baguette "france pan".)

Köln's version is delicious, I loved the chewiness of the bread and the chocolate has just the right amount of sweetness...perfect snack with coffee.

  1. Hi Kat,

    that bread sounds good.

My local bakeries fail when held up to the delights you regularly find. I must get on my bike and visit other ones.

  7. I like how they have that fancy paper wrapper around the bread. It reminded me of visits to france where often they'd just wrap a baguette in a slip of paper if you're ordering just that, but here in Italy they put it in a paper sack.

  8. Oh, and about Mariana's comment....I was just wondering, if I write a word with the accent above or to the side of a vowel, do you see it? Here's a test:
    é è à ù ò

I figured that if your pc can't read it then it looks like a square...or whatever. When I type out those vowels I always try to remember to put a mark to the side, like this e', but most times I just leave it alone.

  9. Hi Kat,
Do you think I'd get almost the same flavors if I spread Nutella on some french bread? I know it's not dark chocolate but none of the bakeries around me would carry something cool like this. I'd have to get creative and make it myself.

    Thanks!

  10. it was actually in a plastic bag too Rowena :( oh, and I can see all your accent marks :)

Pocky, you could use nutella or just melt some dark chocolate and spread it on the baguette :) I hope either way works out for you.

    Take care you two.
