You will almost never find money on the ground here.
If you do, it will probably be 1 yen (about US$.01) or 1 yen that someone has glued to the ground as a prank (yup, I found that one! and tried to pick it up, almost broke a nail while trying to...)
Today, as I walked to the train station, I walked pass this on the ground...50 yen (about US$.50)
It took a split second to register, then I walked back to pick it up.
I think the "rule" is if you find bills you are supposed to turn it into the police...(though Satoshi says unless it was a huge amount, most people don't turn it in at all...)
On another positive note, I answered a questionnaire in a Japanese foodie magazine that I subscribe to. When you answer the questionnaire, you can indicate what prizes you would like to win.
I was aiming for the 2 bars of chocolate from La Maison du Chocolat, but received a bottle of peach jam from L'ami de Ble.
I was happy just to recieve something. This jam is made from white peaches. If you have tasted white peaches in Japan they are juicy and very sweet.
This jam was just that, with lots of big peach pieces. Unfortunately, this jam's carbon footprint wasn't too good though, it went from Kobe to Tokyo back to Osaka.
I checked my archives and realized that I have won 2 other prizes from this magazine...a Cuoca chocolate tasting set and Pukka tea.
It is Friday here, hope you have a great weekend.
I never win anything but that's probably because I never join! Haha Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's some magazine!
ReplyDeleteOh gotta tell you this story. Years ago worked a sidewalk sale in Pearlridge. A co-worker had rubber cemented a quarter to the ground outside and we tried SO hard not to laugh as we watched all the old dudes try to pick it up. Along came one of the maintenance workers with a metal thing they use to scrape gum off the floor, and effortlessly scored the quarter LOL
ReplyDeleteyou should give it a go Gtrine :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenster :)
That is hilarious Debi :)
Take care everyone.

That's so neat that they send you a prize, and that jam sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteI want a magazine like that here! ;-) The jam looks delicious--although chocolate bars would be nice too.
ReplyDeleteI think it might be good on plain yogurt too Jalna :)
ReplyDeleteChocolate would have definitely been nice too Debinhawaii :)
Take care you two.
Kat
I love finding money on the ground. Doesn't matter which amount, finders keepers losers weepers...heehee.
ReplyDeleteWhite peaches are my favorite, so I can imagine how fantastic the jam tasted, even if it has a big carbon footprint!
Hey Kat - That's an interesting observation. I once found a $100 bill on the floor of a restroom.... because of the location, I kinda hesitated, but in the end, it was still a $100 bill, and I could always wash my hands, right? ;o)
ReplyDeleteI should think that way more Rowena :)
ReplyDeleteHope you washed the bill too Kirk :)
Take care you two.
Kat
On my last trip to (Osaka) Japan I found a 5000 yen note in the Nishiohashi station. It was so surprising! Well technically my bf found it, I saw it and walked over it haha. I guess I'm not used to yen notes.
ReplyDeleteThat is funny Saint, and very lucky :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Kat
I love white peaches. Congrats on winning the jar of jam.
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
