satoshi's bento

Here's a look at Satoshi's bento.

On New Years Eve day, I asked him if his company would be providing them with lunch on the 2nd. He said since his company is cutting costs, he had to find his own lunch.

Figuring that most places would be closed (since he works in the business district), I asked him if he wanted me to make him a bento (boxed lunch). At first he said no, but then changed his mind and said he wanted to bring lunch.

You know whenever I pack these bento, I really never know how to get the most food into that small space...I guess I should study up on this.

Anyway, most of the items were pre-made (konbu maki (rolled seaweed), tsukemono (pickled veggies) and tsukudani (seasoned fish)), the only things I made were the shiitake mushrooms seasoned with tonkatsu sauce and some butter, tamagoyaki (rolled omlette) with shiofuki konbu (seasoned seaweed), leftover kim chee gyoza and leftover sweet potato salad.

I also sent him with some pu-erh tea and a few cookies.

Hope this was enough food for him.

  2. Yummm! That's exactly the kind of bento I would pick if I saw it for sale. I love the variety.

  3. That is so sweet of you to make him lunch! I love tamagoyaki, but have never had much success in making it...my attempts usually result in a scrambled mess that I gobble up straight from the pan hehe ^_^ Happy new years Kat! :)

  4. Wow. If I made something like that for my husband, he'd be in heaven. But unless his company starts cutting costs, he is stuck with the lousy food at the company's cafeteria.

  5. It is really simple Dennis and great for bentos :)

    Thanks Jalna :)

I think you may need the "pan" Kathy, it is non-stick and just the right size for tamagoyaki :)

I wish Satoshi's company had a cafeteria, then he wouldn't have to spend almost $10 a day for lunch!

    Take care everyone.

  6. Hi Kat - It seems that you managed to squeeze in (and rather nicely) quite a bit of food, so I don't think you need any help with that!

  9. Looks tasty to me! You can pack my lunch anytime.

Kim Chee gyoza, I've never seen that flavor before. Usually the only ones I can find at the store are veggie and pork or shrimp. Guess the only way I'm going to get that is if I learn to make it myself.
