After French class, I checked out a tiny shop called Plum Cube inside the wickets of the Hankyu Umeda station on the 2nd floor.This shop houses 4 different sweet shops which changes every 3 months.
Starting March 1st, 4 new shops opened for business.
I didn't get a chance to see all 4 because I was sidetracked by La Tour Blanc's donuts. They are baked and I was particularly intrigued by their macaron donuts.
I decided to pick up 3 different kinds to try.
Chocolat Berry--dark chocolate donut covered with dark chocolate and freeze dried raspberries. This was dense and very chocolatey, though I kept getting perturbed by the raspberry seeds...210 yen (about US$2.10)
Yuzu Lemon--Citron and lemon donut covered with white chocolate and pistachios. This one could have been more citrusy, the white chocolate icing kind of overpowered everything...189 yen (about US$1.89)
Matcha--this donut was topped with half a macaron. Nice matcha flavor...210 yen(about US$2.10)
Texture-wise, these were more like pound cake rather than donuts.
The girl at the counter said to check back as they were planning to add 13 more flavors.
They are quite pricey and more like cake than a cake donut, I think I'll check out the other 3 shops the next time I'm in the area.

ReplyDeleteWow, a macaron-cross-donut baby? The Japanese can certainly be wonderfully ingenious sometimes! I'm still yet to try real macarons. Paris in just a few weeks though!!
