c3

Sometimes when Satoshi works on the weekends, I ask him to buy some dessert for us.

At first, I would tell him where to go, what to buy. But now, I let him buy what he wants.

It is interesting to see what he chooses...items mostly laden with fruit.

On Sunday, he went to C3 (c cubed) and picked up a Torta Sacher, which was an Italian version of the Austrian Sacher tort.

This was rich and quite decadent, lots of chocolate.

And a Pompelmi, a hazelnut biscuit topped with grapefruit mousse and pieces of grapefruit.

This was refreshing. I think this was my favorite of the two.

You can tell when Satoshi hasn't had time, he's running late, pops in and just grabs something.

Case in point...Wednesday. Only 3 days after going to C3, he was running late coming home.

He bought dessert for us from C3 (again! not that I'm grumbling).

He picked up another Pompelmi and a Torta di pistacchio con pompelmo.

The tart was almond with grapefruit and pistachio mousse then topped with grapefruit pieces and a sprinkling of pistachio.

When I asked him if he remembered that he bought from C3 on Sunday, he said, "I thought they looked familiar".

Still, I appreciate him working so hard on the weekends and also picking up desserts for us. (Thanks Satoshi!)

  1. Yum! I love chocolate too but the grapefruit/hazelnut combo sounds really delicious and not-so-common!

  3. Cruel, cruel world! C3 is owned by Henri Charpentier!

Oh well, at least it wasn't pictures of financier and macarons and roll cake! :-)

  4. Thanks K, you are right about grapefruit not being too common :)

It was really good Genki, not sour at all :)

Sorry Rona, I had a feeling it might be HC and tried checking on it but couldn't find out any info :( I found out the HC salon in Ashiya closed for good and am sad I didn't try it when I had the chance. Hey, even that bakery in Nishinomiya closed (Boulangerie Monsieur H).

    Take care everyone.

  5. :-o!

I found out Boulangerie Monsieur H closed sometime before I left, and I was really surprised. They were always busy when I went there, but I think the owners retired or something? I can't remember now. But I didn't know the HC Salon closed, too! It really is a cruel world! At least their depachika stores aren't in any danger of closing!

BTW, there's a really good bakery in Kurakuen called Boulange Yamauchi. Their croque monsieur is second only to Burdigala for me! And if that's not enough to tempt you, Fontegara is just half a block away, so you can get some really good Neapolitan-style pizza, too! (the napoletana is my favourite, but the sausage one is really good, too!) And if you walk up the hill from Shukugawa Station instead of taking the train, you can find all sorts of bakeries and little restaurants to browse through, too!

    Still homesick. . . :-(

  9. I think tablelog said that the owners in Tokyo went bankrupt Rona. I want to check out Michel Bach in Shukugawa, will add this Boulangerie to my list too, hopefully get around to doing that soon.

Thanks Kathy and Debinhawaii, he is a keeper :)

    Refreshing indeed Jalna :)

    Take care everyone.

  10. Satoshi is a great dessert selector. I'd go for those any day. Can totally understand the running late thing...MotH does the same for stopovers to the grocers after work, but sometimes he forgets at least one item that I asked for.
