The last time I ate at Panya, my experience was kinda sketchy.
This time around, I met my friend, Mineko.
She had an appointment to get to after lunch and this was the closest place to it.
The place was packed and we were seated at the counter.
This wasn't too bad, except that after we ordered I spotted the biggest cockroach on their wall! (without my glasses on even! eew!)
I quietly told the waitress but it was so far up the wall that there just wasn't much they could do but pray it didn't fall (or fly) on anyone sitting under (or around) it...eep!
Mineko ordered the Japanese curry with beef and fresh shiitake.
It came with a huge scoop of rice and the curry smelled really spicy.
I chose the Panya club sandwich on 7-grain bread...because I wanted bacon.
The bacon was thick and chewy (which was still delicious) and I really liked the 7-grain bread.
Despite the "thing" on the wall, we had a nice lunch and catch-up. (Thank you!)
I know I said the last time that I didn't think we would be back and now I mean it.
Ewww, I hate that! Especially if it happens at a place that like, because normally I won't go back. I've had a baby roach on my table at a popular local food place, and a medium sized one on the wall right by my table at a Chinese restaurant in town!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness Kat - That would have been quite a distraction.....
ReplyDeleteEww that is bad Lori, yeah I won't go back there.
ReplyDeleteDistrations indeed Kirk ;)
Take care.
Kat
Oy, I'd be distracted too -- that is something I *don't* miss about Hawaii...bambucha roaches!
ReplyDeleteI might have mentioned this here before, but at a sort of famous sushi place in Osaka (made famous by Anthony Bourdain), a large cockroach landed on my arm! The restaurant was teeny tiny, and was in a old building in Chayamachi, so I guess it wasn't really a surprise it had cockroaches.
ReplyDeleteI'd still go back, though. Really good sushi!
Yikes! That would make it hard to concentrate on the meal for sure. I guess I haven't been missing much by not going there. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd yet people still love that place. Bleah! Personally I won't eat either the restaurant food or the pastries. I've seen how the employees handle the trays of pastries before. Believe me you don't want to eat the pastries after the trays have been set on the floor or pavement (outside of the restaurant) UNCOVERED while being transfered from the delivery van to the store!
ReplyDeleteI don't miss them either Jude ;)
ReplyDeleteI've seen that episode Rona, even if you had a roach on you (eew), the sushi did sound and look good!
Definitely not missing anything Debinhawaii ;)
Eep Anon that is bad!
Take care everyone.
Kat
That Japanese Curry looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteHi Kat!
ReplyDeleteThe last time (which was also the first time!) I "dined" at Panya we left without eating because they took so ridiculously long! The service was so spotty, they delivered our drinks and nothing else. Was so disappointing I never had an urge to return.
...I still get the Hokkaido bread for takeout though! ^_^
Thanks Dennis, my friend enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoy their breads Kathy :)
Take care you two.
Kat
No way....was it the big kine B-52's? Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
ReplyDeleteEwwwww!!! Hard fo eat la dat. . . hard fo focus on da food. Your Japanese Word of the Day is boro. Now I know why we say, "I wearing my boro boros today."
ReplyDeleteB-52 big Rowena :(
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Kat
You so funny Jalna :) I think that is how we got "boro-boro" too :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
