it's been...

Can you believe it's been 4 years since we did this?...seems like yesterday (kind of).

Anyway, Satoshi had planned to climb again this year with a family friend from Hawaii.

But guess what?! With all the freaky weather this year, there was still SNOW near the top, and a LOT of it, making it only possible for professional mountain climbers to make it to the top, if that.

So when Satoshi called to find out about the mountain huts and status of climbing a few weeks ago, he found out that most mountain huts would be closed until later in the month, when they hoped that the majority of snow would have melted.

Hearing this, they decided not to climb this year, but our family friend decided to still make the trip over.

Apparently this is the 4th year that the top has been snowed over. We were truly lucky to experience this when we did!

Then over the past week, a group of people went up to shovel the snow in order to meet the "yamabiraki" or opening of the mountain on July 1st...

Satoshi saw this on television and was bummed that they had cancelled their climb, but noted that with the freaky rain and other weather related incidents, it probably was best that they didn't try this year.

Just a reminder that Mother Nature is in charge! (ALWAYS!)

As for our family friend, we feel really bad about him coming all this way, and spending a week in gross humidity and never ending rain...Sorry D! (Next time for sure!)

It's Friday here, have a nice weekend! (Happy 4th of July!)

  3. Hey Kat, been following your blog for a while now. Just gotta say, damn that Mt. Fuji- I've tried it twice and never made it to the top due to bad weather. The second time was a sudden typhoon! I kinda want to try it again this year but nobody is crazy enough to go with me. Too bad about the snow :(
