In Japan, you sometimes you run into very, very old matsu (pine) whose branches are being held up by "crutches" because their branches are very, very long.
Recently, we came across such a pine in Kyoto.
I've tried to piece my photos of it together. Hope you can get a feel for how long this one is.
Wow! That is a wide pine. I've never seen anything with more than 1 crutch! Nice job with the panoramic stitching. ;)

I like that the tree is propped up instead of trimmed to keep things simple. If I were a bird and "claimed" the whole thing as my own, that would be one big piece of property to spread the nest around.

I love interesting trees like that! Foster Botanical Gardens had some really wonderful specimens that we really miss. Thanks for sharing this.
