chun wah kam

You know what I love about Hawaii, you can get so much done in the morning because everything opens early! In Japan, you'd at least have to wait until 10-ish, and by the time you get your errands done, almost half the day is gone.

Anyway, lunch on Friday was from Chun Wah Kam. It is one of the only places we eat dim sum from in our area.

Lately, though, some of their prices have gone up and quality down...

We tried their Roast Duck Buns...thick pieces of roast duck, hoisin sauce and scallions...moist, meaty, so good! (US$3.75 for 2)

And their Char Siu Buns...nice cuts of char siu, hoisin sauce and scallions...delish! (US$3.75 for 3)

I think I like the char siu version a little better.

We also got a baked manapua (for something this size, please put more filling!! US$2), some pork hash (US$.85/ea), crispy gau gee (US$.80/ea) and taro cake (please put more taro too! US$1.60)

Over all good food, though like I said, some of the quality is going down.

Hope your weekend is going well.

  5. Couple of months? I've been following your blog for a couple of years now and really enjoy your love of food. If you're ever up to it I would like to take both of you to lunch (different dim sum place?) while you are here. I work all over Oahu so meeting you would not be a problem.

  8. I am so lucky. Now I can see what you eat and see in Hawaii! It's funny the price you mention is much easier to compare with the price here. I guess I'm very American now...I forgot the sense of $ in Japan. I still do, but dollar makes it easier to compare. I used to always convert currency to Japanese yen to compare. I guess I stopped doing that now... All the food looks delicious!

  12. Same here, but mostly I feel the time restraints in Milan as the places I want to go open at 10am and then close at 12 or 12:30 for lunch and reopen after 2pm. Mornings are a complete bust with those store hours.

  13. some times as I'm walking back from the train station Rowena, I think "what did I do today?" and it is like, "oh yeah I went to the dentist...that's it??!"

  16. Oh man, I think I've been living in NYC for too long. Those prices sound too good to be true. I've gotten used to paying $5 (each!) for a pork bun here. A summer trip home is overdue, but I'm not sure I can make it back before the fall this year...
