Have you ever seen fireflies? My first experience was back in 2006 when we went to Oita in Kyushu.
The area where we live, Minoo, is supposed to have lots of fireflies especially near the streams of the Quasi-National park, but we've never seen them.
The other week, while I was walking, I saw a couple of them in our neighborhood but that was during the day.
Then yesterday, I saw one on our apartment complex wall.
This particular type is called "genjibotaru", it was quite large. Too bad they don't glow in the daylight, that would've been something to see and show you.
Do you have fireflies where you live?
We have them but they are way small compared to yours! Never successful at catching them though.
ReplyDeleteWow I never seen a firefly as big as that! The glow must be something to look at!
ReplyDeleteRowena & Dennis mama-sized yeah?! I wanna see them glow!
ReplyDeleteTake care you two.
Kat
Yes, we have fireflies...but I had to ask my youngest if he's seen any yet...and he has! Maybe I need to stay up past 9 PM?????
ReplyDeletemaybe I need to go outside at that hour too Lizzy! Thanks for the heads-up :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Kat
I honestly don't think I've seen any here yet, but I might not be visiting the right places.
ReplyDeletesupposedly you need a really clean stream and then they will come Elle Marie, which surprised me, because the one we have nearby is not too clean. Up near Minoo Park (Quasi-National), they have really clean streams, so I can understand why they are there. :)

What a weird looking bug! If you caught it and put it in a jar, would it not glow for you? If you caught a whole bunch and put it in a jar could it light your way? Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to see a firefly at night! I never knew they looked like that.
ReplyDelete- myra
I never see the bugs but only the light when they glow. I never know they look like this!
ReplyDeleteI grew up with fireflies.
ReplyDeleteMakes me so nostalgic..
You don't see them in New York City much if at all.
I spent many a summer nite attempting to put them in a jar.
I hope I was mostly unsuccessful..sigh
sounds like we're on the same page, lets make food exciting! check out our show if you have a sec, the sneak peek is this sunday at 10:30/930 central - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3J824ZuGXA
ReplyDeleteNope, never seen one in Japan or in the US! I hope to see it one day...but when you talk about fireflies, I can't think anything else but Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka) from Hayao Miyazaki. Have you watched it? I saw it when I was in school and it was a very shocking movie to me...
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have ever seen one in person--it looks huge. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hear they don't have a long life span Jalna :)
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if all fireflies look like this one Myra.
True Patzie at night it is hard to tell what they look like.
Thanks Carol, hope I brought back good memories for you.
Thanks Extreme Chef!
Ah that movie Nami is so sad & depressing but based on real stories, I cry everytime I see it.
Take care everyone.
