10 years ago, I moved from Hawaii to Japan. It was during this year that we travelled to NYC and also to Tohoku.
Today is the 10th anniversary of a tragic disaster...what everyone calls 9.11.
It is also the 6th month anniversary of another tragic disaster, the one in the Tohoku area of Japan.
Though one was man-made and one was natural...both carry helpless feelings in my heart.
While I do not know anyone personally who died or who is missing, I feel for their families.
Sending out hugs.
Prays and wishes to everyone in the US and Japan on this tragic day where we remember.

Was in Okinawa and sleeping when my musume called up to tell me what happened and what was happening. Turned on the TV to see what was happening. Next morning we were on FPCON Delta (worst case scenario) which means inspection of all vehicles going onto a base.
ReplyDeleteInteresting when you drive your car between two walls of sandbags and have to open your hood and trunk so the MPs can inspect your car. Also with armed troops watching all, not the normal Japanese gate guards.
One humorous thing was that in the following week a car was stopped for inspection going into Camp Foster and the MP at a gate using the mirror thing for looking under cars spotted this bag of white stuff. So all other gates were immediately shut completely until it was determined what the white stuff was. Turned out to be salt. The Okinawans have this reverence for salt to purify things and the little bag was a normal thing to have attached under cars.
Thanks J-A!
ReplyDeleteInteresting stories Nate!
Take care you two.

I was in Torino (Turin) on that day and wondered why I couldn't log onto the internet. MotH came home to tell me the news (we didn't have a tv then)....what a shocker.
