hawaii eats

We recently received two avocados from my Mom's friend.

Mom waited patiently for them to ripen so that she could mash it up and eat it with sugar.

She said as a child she would eat avocado mashed and sprinkled with sugar for breakfast, or sometimes as a snack.

Well, growing up, I was a picky eater. And though I knew she used to eat avocados this way, I had actually never tried it.

Until the other day.

The verdict? it was good, not mountain moving though and I think I would prefer my avocados in savory fashion.

  1. Never tried with sugar. I usually eat avocado with salt, some lemon juice and tomatoes. I love avocado, and could eat it every single day. Besides, avocado is so healthy. I prefer organic avocados from California, but would like to taste Hawaiian avocados. Mmmmm, I bet they are so delicious. Sandy

  3. Hawaii's avocados are definitely delish, Sandy, mainly because most are tree ripened :)

    You are welcome, Jalna :)

    Take care you two.

  4. Generally I love living in a cool climate (northwest USA), but whenever I go someplace warm and eat their fresh, local avocados, I start dreaming about how nice it would be to have an avocado tree!

  5. Mashed avocado and sugar on toast is my favorite way to eat avocado! That's the first way my parents taught me how to eat it!

  8. As a child I ate avocado with catsup. Still do. Can't bring myself to buy at stores since they were always free. Just like mangos.

  9. will have to try that version Anon!

I used to eat it with catsup too Anon, but it was because I didn't care for it at the time. I haven't brought myself to buying mangoes in Japan, yet...

    Take care you two.
