One of my Dad's sisters turned 90 the other day.
We got together with her family to help her celebrate at Yoshitsune Restaurant in the Park Shore Hotel, which is at the end of Waikiki.
I'd never been to this restaurant nor this hotel before and was pleasantly surprised.
The food was good.
If you look at Yelp, you'll see that many were disappointed in the sushi selection. Well, if you go looking for sushi that you can find in the US, like California roll or Rainbow roll, then of course, you'll be disappointed.
What is served at Yoshitsune is pretty close to what you'll find in Japan.
And if you can speak some Japanese (like me) the waitresses will give you a little better service.
If you click on the photo, you can read up on what we ate.
The green tea ice cream definitely had no green tea taste, but the butterfish was perfectly cooked.
Oh, and in our sashimi course there was a tiny abalone!
Since most times, we get together with my Mom's side of the family, it was great seeing some of my relatives on my Dad's side for a change.
Happy 90th Birthday Aunty!

What a great celebration with good food!
Wow 90! That is something to celebrate Kat!
It's too bad they can't start calling sushi roll restaurants "American Japanese" and those more traditional "Japanese restaurants" because the reverse is true also. I am finding here on the West Coast of US that the places that focus on rolls tend to not get nigiri sushi right. Especially failing to season the rice.
It's kind of sad how far roll places are going trying to cater to some bad habits. I am seeing more and more fatty foods being used like tempura and cream cheese and less healthy sushi rolls on menus. It's not Japanese at all at that point from my view. What gets me is some people who eat these rolls still think it's healthy.
Sounds like it was a wonderful meal and a very nice celebration. Good that your family is able to get together like this!
indeed K!
so true Kirk :)
Take care you two.

90 years...that's just fabulous to be able to celebrate with her and chow down on some great food. Some of those yelpers don't have a clue about food.
ah blukats, the Japanese conveyor belt sushi places in Japan have started serving those tempura rolls and other "unusual" toppings too. I've heard Japan sushi chefs want to "trademark" the word sushi.
I agree Rowena :)
Take care you two.
