The char siu don (donburi = bowl) from Foodland...$5.99
Just rice and char siu (a little green onions)
The meat wasn't fatty so it was rather dry.
But I was surprised at how much char siu they gave, totally worth the price.
I got lucky because there were some Chinese roast pork pieces in there too...whoo!
My mum makes great char siu pork with no additives. It's especially nice with noodles or in a sandwich.
ReplyDeleteDid you know restaurant and take away char siu use red food colouring on their char siu and possibly MSG.
You can't beat home cooking.
That is so nice that your mom makes it from scratch Chimerastone, unfortunately this is the style I've grown up on here.

ReplyDeleteI went rushing over to Dillingham Foodland just now because this looked so yummy! Guess what, they don't have it. It must be store-specific. Which is Foodland is this from?
Vicki, sorry they didn't have it, I got it from PC Foodland.

A definite deal at that price (doing the $ to € ratio in my head). It's been a long time since I've set foot in a Foodland!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to come back for a visit soon, Rowena!
