1st world problems

The other day, apparently Ericsson had a data malfunction of sorts.

Well, because of that malfunction, it took out 11 countries worth of cell phone carriers & users...including mine.

It is amazing how much we rely on our cell phones, yeah?!

Since I don't use my cell phone too much for phone calls, I didn't notice the outage until the news had reported it.

Things people learned without cell service...

How to use a pay phone (yup, there are generations that don't know how to use "real" land lines)...

You cannot use Apple Pay or the like...

Analog items like important phone numbers might be good to carry around...

Disaster warning apps are useless...

Asking for directions...

WiFi spots are life savers...

Were you affected by this malfunction?

  1. didn't even hear about this, so I wonder if it was only in the Asia/Pacific areas? I don't even own a cell (yeah, you shoulda seen the faces of security when I went to the Consulate), haha!

  3. I was curious so googled this outage. so simple but what an impact! I saw the O2 (in London?) filed a multi million dollar suit already since this was preventable. They were out about 14 hours compared to Japan's 4 hours. Shows we rely on cellphones way too much.

  5. Well, good luck finding a pay phone here! Folks are so tied to their Smartphones that they aren't very "smart" without them. A few years ago; ma good school friend of mine and his much younger brother were talking about stuff like that. We mentioned when there were no ATMs. His brother looked shocked and asked us; "but......how were you able to get money???"
