We checked out Soul Food, a teeny shop that I spotted from the train.
A cute couple running the shop, it was quite amazing to see them not get in each other's way since the kitchen area was so teeny.
I ordered the chicken curry...1000 yen (tax included).
This came with a salad and some consomme soup.
The curry had just the right amount of spices so as not to "burn" your mouth off.
The chicken was a little on the dry side, but at least it was cooked through (you'd be surprised at how many eateries do not cook their food all the way through).
Satoshi ordered the steak curry...1200 yen (tax included).
His plate looked good. His meal also came with some consomme soup and his salad was served with his curry.
They cook the steak after you order so be prepared to wait.
There are other items on their menu that we want to try...we'll be back.

is this regular Japanese curry? looks reddish, almost like beanless chili. Like, local plate lunch curry is yellow/greenish, and coco ichiban or the S&H curry blocks are brownish.
ReplyDeleteJust found out a woman at the open market on Fort St sells several different kinds of curry starters that you just add your own protein and veggies. She sells out fast.

V, this is what the Japanese call "spice curry", which doesn't use the S & B blocks, just lots of spices. It is kind "watery" not thick like Japanese style curry. Some places cook their curry for many days and the veggies & meats they use "melt" into the sauce.
ReplyDeleteTake care.

that is scary to read about food not cooked all the way through, especially chicken!!!
ReplyDeleteThe portions look quite generous Kat!
ReplyDeleteRowena, there was a place that served me raw chicken! They said it was cooked at a low temp (um cooked through it should be white, not pink), I asked them to cook it all the way through and they got all grouchy, never posted about it or went back!
ReplyDeleteKirk, the portions were a nice size.
Take care you two.
