I wasn't going to update the blog for the rest of the week, but since things have drastically changed, I thought I should tell you what is happening...
Last night, Prime Minister Abe declared "a state of emergency" for 7 prefectures : Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Osaka, Hyogo & Fukuoka.
From what I understand, it doesn't "lock" us down or anything severe, but it does give the government the power to claim lands/buildings needed to create "make-shift" hospitals, as well as free up monies to combat this virus.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been hoping he would declare this state of emergency, but they were waiting to see if the Olympics could be held and how declaring the emergency would affect the economy...sigh.
Satoshi has some work to do from home, but is basically on leave until May 6th.
I'm glad he doesn't have to go in to work because every time he has to ride the train it puts him/us at risk...
We will keep to our daily time schedules, going out only for groceries or a walk.
Hope you are all keeping safe.
Take care.
Stay safe !! Do not go to the shops too often and when out stay far away from other people! Here in Canada we are suppose to stay 2 meters away from strangers .
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Satoshi doesn't have to commute via the train Kat. That sure does decrease the risk. Stay safe!
ReplyDeletefinally indeed, because the economy, like every other country, will suffer BIG for this but it's better than a catastrophe of body counts and a situation gone totally out of control. I still feel you guys listen better than ours...some of these peeps are sneaky to get out!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kat for keeping us here in Hawaii updated on what's going on in our favorite place to visit. We love Japan and the people and wish the best for all of you. We are advised here to wear a face mask when out and social distancing. Of course there are always a few that defy rules and so the city is issuing citations and even arresting offenders.
ReplyDeleteTake care and appreciate the updates.

The sakura picture is awesome. Beauty in this world yet!
ReplyDeleteKind of scary for Satoshi to have to been riding the trains.
Over here, a lot of places and agencies are starting to make it mandatory to wear masks. We just got notice that anyone entering the harbors where our pier shops are must have a face mask. Thanks to your no sew mask instructions, I'm set! I notice new videos with your method but they are now inserting coffee filters. One even said to cut up those re-useable polystyrene shopping bags either to use as the mask or insert.
Take care and be safe

oops, it's polypropylene in those reusable bags, not polystyrene (styrofoam)

Thank you Jo, hope you are doing well.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Kirk!
I agree Rowena!

Take care everyone!
