Unfortunately due to the pandemic, they will not be opening up the mountain for hiking this year.
Hopefully next year will be a better year (for everything).
p.s. over the weekend there was tons of rain and flooding in parts of Kyushu, please keep everyone there in your thoughts.

ReplyDeleteAlso wanted to try but each year that passes makes it less and less do-able and think I'm really susceptible to altitude sickness, felt nausea and headache just going to Haleakala.
My cousins went a few years ago just at seasons end. Although the younger kids made it to the top, it was storming up there so they weren't able to see the sunset but were happy to have made it anyway. I think the owner of the cabins came and told everyone (in Japanese) that top was closed because of the weather but they didn't understand Japanese and wondered why everyone else went back to sleep LOL.
