whew

We had a little "scare" over the weekend.

Friday, a co-worker in Satoshi's work group got a call from a family member.

Apparently the co-worker's father had a slight fever and also fell and hit his head.

They were both going to get tested on Saturday to see if they had COVID...

Luckily the co-worker and father were both negative and the father's head injury was nothing serious...whew!

This time around we were definitely lucky but this pandemic is definitely getting closer to home.

Changing subjects...during this pandemic, we've been trying all sorts of places for takeout.

Last night, we took out from Yoshinoya.

Their gyu suki (sukiyaki).

It was my first time to eat from here.

I liked the flavors, not overly sweet or overly salty and the rice wasn't mushy.

Eating takeout from all these places definitely haven't been good for our cholesterol, but at least this gives us some variation.

Have a safe week everyone.

  2. Even not being able to visit Japan, I can still in my mind exactly where the Yoshinoya in Kyoto is that I always go to. Right across the street from Daimaru! I always used to order their sukiyaki too. Not sure if they have it year round. It was first time I actually tried eating the raw egg! So cheap too, compared to Hawaii. Most places in Hawaii it can only be ordered for 2.
Kind of worrisome to think someone in Satoshi's work group might have been infected. We've have several close calls, but not in our direct work group/area. I just heard of the news that Hawaii is once again one of the lowest states for infection but we're still restricted from so many things.
Glad you guys are staying safe!

  3. For some reason I never did hit the Yoshinoya on Kuhio. And when I went to one in Tokyo I was totally overwhelmed by the Nihongo menu. Maybe I'd be able to decipher it better today but back in the 1990s, FUHGET IT! Matsuya was WAY the hell easier to understand.

Of course we didn't hit gyudon even once the last few times we visited. I suppose we evolved away from the simple taberu stuff.

500 cases a day in Tokyo is the new norm? Not sure how that compares with the U.S. Mainland but I'm sure it doesn't even come close. Cali is just BLOWED UP!

    1. Saburo the mainland numbers are so crazy! I think 500 is Tokyo’s new norm, though today we went closer to 600...572!!

  4. even after we get vaccinated and covid is under control, hopefully soon, I don't think I'm gonna feel 'right' about eating in. I know it'll be weird at first.

  5. Rowena, even with the vaccine, I have a feeling that wearing masks will be the "new normal", so those people who are against wearing one better start getting on board with it...

    Take care!
