this and that

We ate the shine muscat that I froze...afterwards, I learned something about freezing grapes from a show I was watching.

Apparently you should leave a little part of the stem on the grape so that it doesn't lose moisture and flavor when you freeze it.

If I get a chance to freeze grapes again, will do it their way and show you a photo of it.

Tokyo people...thought the guy was carrying a lot of  "stuff" for this teeny dog.
Relatively old style “meals on wheels”
Discovered a Red Lobster about 30 minutes walking from where we live.

Not sure if  we'll check it out, but nice to know it is there.

This amaguri (literally sweet chestnut) danish from Little Mermaid was so good!

Flaky puff pastry filled with chestnuts.

I've written about convenience soft serve before.

The other day I sent Satoshi to Mini Stop to get us some Belgian chocolate premium soft serve.

He tells me, "write it down Kat so I don't buy the wrong thing"…"cause you know if I buy the wrong thing..."

what? me? I not that mean....bwhaaa!

So he bought them, and I was impressed again with their edible cone covers.

The soft serve was so rich.

There were brownie bits as well as chocolate swirls and almonds.

Of course it had melted a bit from his walk back.

But it was delicious!

After having this oven for 20 years, I learned for the first time (by accident) that the oven temp can go really low (40C/104F)!

Gonna try baking this winter!

“Huge” Peruvian avocado with a tiny seed...usually the avocados at the store are from Mexico and are small.

This one was 300 yen-ish (the Mexican ones can go as low as 98 yen)..we enjoyed this as avocado toast and with taco rice.

Remember at the beginning of the month I said that Mount Fuji had snow on top?! Well it melted after that, so apparently the people in Yamanashi who deemed it a month early “took back” their claim and since it has snowed again in the past week, have re-declared it now as “being on schedule”…WT?!

You may (or not) have heard that Princess Mako's fiancé returned from his study abroad in New York, which was a big media fiasco here.

You could hear the helicopters and sirens as he passed through our area on the way to Yokohama from Narita.

Normally when Japan royal females marry, they leave the royal family, become "commoners" and are given a financial package which is supposed to help compensate their life "in the real world".

Princess Mako has declined this package ($1.35 million) and all the royal ceremonies in order to marry this guy.

I am probably a prude but am not too keen on his new hair-do nor all the gossip surrounding their relationship, but wish them all the best.

Wednesday, the Liberal Democratic Party had their internal election to choose a new Prime Minister, who is Fumio Kishida...He is the 100th Prime Minister and the 11th one since we moved here in 2001...

On Monday, Tokyo's case numbers went as low as 150-something...

It's the start of a new month, let's hope Japan can keep its case rate down so we can finally give the medical people some rest.

There is yet another typhoon approaching...#16 (Mindulle), hoping there won't be any damage.

Hope I didn’t bore you with this long post...

Have a safe weekend.

  1. LOL, once again, Japan's attention to detail-about the grapes! But actually, I just put a bunch on the stem in a baggie and freeze so same thing, right?
Such an interest shape of the chestnut danish.
and your oven to have the pictures of the foods for the preset buttons (I presume) for cooking. helpful!

  2. It's a shame that the mother's ex-fiance's loan-gift of 30k has now caused the loss of a much, much larger amount of money that could really help this young couple in setting up a home in a nicer and safer neighorhood in New York. I think the princess is pretty strong-willed and naive, so she does not see some of the dangers and risks ahead with marrying into this family. But thankfully her own family should protect her in the worst case scenario. However, she will be far from home and without family and friends nearby for support. The jaded and cynical side of me does not think the marriage will go as smoothly as her own parents' or her cousin's, there will be a lot of bumps and twists and turns along the road that she will have never expected to encounter. But she seems strong, so I won't worry too much. But still. Sigh.

    1. Unfortunately Anon, if this marriage doesn’t work out she has no where to go. Once she leaves the royal family she cannot go back. They just announced she has PTSD too, dunno how this will all play out…

      Take care.

  3. Edible ice cream cover? That is so cool.
The news about the Princess and her fiancé is a hot global topic right now. The news mentioned the pony tail which is so American. They're both young and will be fine I think.
Great news about the Covid numbers. We're getting our Pfizer booster next week. I don't anticipate any side effects like the first two shots.
    Take care,

  4. I had to laugh about Satoshi asking you to write down what you wanted. The other day Wendell went to Safeway and asked if I needed anything. I texted him a photo of a Brown Cow yogurt container with "cream top", "whole milk" and "vanilla" circled in black.
