38 years

In 1985, the Hanshin Tigers became Nippon Ichi (number one in Japan).

On that winning team was Akinobu Okada, who played 2nd base.

Who would have imagined he would be the winning head coach for the Hanshin Tigers in 2023?!

(He did have a chance in 2005, but they ended up losing to the Chiba Lotte Marines, which I wrote about here and here.)

We were disappointed with the television stations who cut the winning interviews while the coach/players were still speaking!

Definitely discrimination and wouldn't have happened if the winning team was someone else.

Congratulations, Tigers!

I guess the Colonel finally forgave them!

A NPB-related tweeter account shared a TVer stream that was accessible with a VPN. Gametime in the 'aina: 11:30 PM. To quote Doc Brown, what the hell.

Was close in the first few innings but man, that three-run dinger in the fourth was practically a knockout blow on its own. And when the GIDP was overturned in the fifth frame, it was pretty much a wrap. Felt like Orix had eight to ten runners LOB -- station-to-station offense is difficult when interrupted by double-play grounders.

But happy for you and the apparent death of this "curse," which got more attention than you'd realize in American baseball media. Also, NPB could have made some extra funds by providing U.S. streaming access to at least the games Yamamoto started but alas...
