Went to Murphy’s with V and her daughter A

It was my first time eating here

Loved the interior 

The waiter looked Indian-ish and had a cool New York-ish accent

I tried their shepard’s pie, chunks of tender lamb and veggies, so ono!

V had their steak and A had their corned beef and cabbage

Everything came out pretty fast and looked delicious

Save room for dessert because on Friday’s there is homemade pie

V & A let me taste their mixed berry and strawberry rhubarb…the crust was so flaky and the fillings were so fresh and not overly sweet

It was nice catching up with V & A

And V was so nice to drive me to Ala Moana to change the aloha shirts she gave us and then all the way back to Pearl City

Aunty V & D took me riding again this summer.

This time we went to Manoa.

It has been ages since I was on the U.H. (University of Hawaii) campus

I had forgotten a lot of the building names

 

And I felt a little sad because the campus I remembered had more greenery than buildings

We also went to Choco Le'a

They gave us their mochi truffle, which I've tried (10 years) before.

We took out lunch from Aloha Salads

I had their Aloha Passion salad with chicken.

Aunty, Uncle and D had their curried chicken wrap

Aunty V gave us these truffles: rainbow shave ice, yuzu and tajin mango

rainbow shave ice was the most interesting and tasted just like shave ice! the colors were cute too.

It was nice spending time with them

Before meeting up with friend Greg for lunch I also checked out the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center

When I worked in Waikiki, this shopping center was so “dark”

It is now called Royal Hawaiian Center and is so pretty

Loved the huge wooden chairs

and huge ceramic pots  

They now have a food court

I also snuck a peek at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel

Lunch was at Ginza Bairin, it’s fast enough for Greg’s lunch break AND they still give kamaʻaina (local) discount

The katsu is always delicious and the restaurant is always busy    

It was nice catching up, thanks for today Greg!

Met up with friend Mineko at Assagio’s

I think the last time I’ve been there was with blog reader Ryan, his wife S and Jalna back in 2023

I had their Chicken Anchovy Olio, there wasn’t much “sauce”, but there was lots of garlic, and the chicken was so flavorful.

I think this was my first time trying this and would get it again

Mineko had their seafood pasta, it had lots of delicious looking shellfish 

It was nice catching up with Mineko

furry reunion

Last year we got together with Yume, Teru & Kai.

This year Maggie, Luna, Naimi and Reshi Bear joined in

Yume and Maggie are the parents of  Teru, Kai, Luna Naimi and Reshi Bear

There are also two more children, Daisy & Belle (I think that was their names) but they were not at the reunion

It had been some time since all of them socialized with each other, but I think everyone (even the humans) had a nice time

Lunch was pizza and dessert was Jalna’s ono banana bread and Carol’s brownies…

there were even desserts for the furry ones.

Thank you Ryan & S for hosting this gathering and I appreciate Jalna & Wendell giving me a ride.

oh my grill

I'm back, will post some of things I ate and did in Hawaii...

One place I tried while in Hawaii was Oh My Grill, they have a couple of places on Oahu and where I stayed in Pearl City they took over the spot that La Tour Cafe used to be in 

I tried their mini sweet sour spareribs…huge! portion but some pieces were soft and some were not

Just enough sweet and sour for me

Their mac salad has tuna in it, if that’s your thing, I don’t mind tuna but was just glad it wasn’t over mayonnaised

All sorts of local dishes, would go back to try other items
