monday


Monday's breakfast was an omlette made with eggs and shiofuki konbu (this is kelp that is seasoned with shoyu, mirin then dried) , gobo (burdock) salad (which was bought...I gotta figure out the recipe for this, I love it!), various tsukemono (pickled veggies), rice & strawberries.

Lunch was a bit of carb overloading...baked curry pan (bread filled with curry), potato croquette burger and yakisoba (fried noodles). I really like the yakisoba from the sozai-ya (a.k.a. okazyu-ya) in our shopping arcade, it is kind of dry, which makes the noodle kind of chewy but not burnt to a crisp and hard.

And dinner was a pork chop seasoned with some bottled spices, moroccan carrot salad, leftover potatoes, asparagus.

  1. Do you mean kinpira gobo? Or another gobo salad? I love it too!!!! I learnt how to make it recently and while it takes a lot longer than buying it it is kind of fun!!!

    You have to wash and soak the gobo for awhile and slicing it is a little bit of a pain but worth it!!! Once both the carrot and gobo are cut up you stir fry them a little bit and then add a little seasame oil, mirin, and soy sauce. Some people add a little sugar (I tried but it was too sweet for me!) and then sprinkle it with seasame seads! Once everything is cut up it is really simple!!! And yummy!

  2. sorry Lulu, I meant another type of salad using gobo. This salad has the gobo, carrots, mayo, sesame seeds, black beans, plus other types of seasonings which I hope to figure out! Thanks for your kinpira recipe though!

  3. I haven't had a croquette burger in a long time, but seeing your lunch makes me want one again. And come to think of it, I have some frozen croquettes that I've forgotten about in the freezer - better make those this week! :)

  5. I love gobo anything. In fact I was hoping to be able to grow the root here, but the only thing that comes close is salsify. Cross my fingers that I'll have success at growing this root veggie!
