Today I have a physical check-up...the first one in 9 or 10 years...eep!
Satoshi has had one every year since we have moved here because his company pays for it.
I think I have been able to receive check-ups from our city but Satoshi doesn't like to read the forms that come, so I've gone with the "if it isn't broken" method of health care, plus the last time I was actually really ill was back in 2005 when I wrote about it here.
This year, his company is paying for family check-ups, so I signed up. I think out of pocket was about $25 for extra tests, like ob-gyn stuffs.
Since our city has revised their physicals/mammogram testing to every two years, this is a good chance to get the ob-gyn stuff done.
I would have had a physical done in Hawaii but since my insurance coverage isn't valid in Hawaii, I would have to pay big bucks.
Like the year before last, I went to the ob-gyn in Hawaii and paid close to $400 for a pap smear...yipes!
Anyway, I had to fast...am starving...hope it doesn't take too long...
Wish me luck and vibe me some low cholesterol numbers...
Hey Kat - I hope all went well!

Hi Kat,
ReplyDeletehope the implements weren't too cold or uncomfortable.
Enjoy your brunch.

Hi, Kat! Long ago, even HMSA didn't cover pap smears so I ended up going to Planned Parenthood of Hawaii to have one done and it cost me very little (there's probably a sliding scale depending on income, etc.). I strongly believe you need to have one every year so perhaps you might look into going there when you next need one.
ReplyDeleteahh the cold implements, how does one relax when they are THAT cold, TK??
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up Anon, will definitely check them out the next time I am home.
Take care you two.
Kat
It's always good to take advantage of company-sponsored stuff . . . and especially when it concerns your health. Hope all went well!
ReplyDeleteI will send good number vibes. Good for you for getting it done. ;-)
ReplyDeleteUgh...physical checkups...nuff said! I wish you lots of luck!
ReplyDeleteWow, hope all went well for you!

$400 for a pap smear? That is crazy. That revision for ob/gyn stuff to two years seems to be global now but I'm surprised that in Japan you'd have to be insured to get that. Isn't it free care like here in Australia?
ReplyDeleteAbout the cold implements, I've been lucky lately...the doctors here use plastic ones that they dispose of so they aren't cold. And no stir-ups either.

Our city used to give us free exams every year Michelle, but have changed it because of costs. Most people have insurance either from their jobs or the government. Before, insurance used to pay 100% but now only 30% which has everyone upset. I feel 30% payment is still better than 0%.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
