lunch

I've been on a rice kick of late.

I picked up this chicken bento (boxed lunch). It came with kari-kari ume(crunchy pickled apricot) rice, some simmered veggies and a teeny scoop of potato salad.

480 yen (about US$4.80) from the sozaiya (pre-made foods shop) in our shopping arcade.

Another day, it was rainy so I didn't leave my house...lunch was leftover spinach and shiitake sauteed with a little butter and tonkatsu (pork cutlet) sauce.

Some tamagoyaki (rolled omlette), tsukemono (pickles), rice & some wakame (kelp) miso soup.

What have you been eating for lunch?

  1. Will I sound completely silly if I admit that my lunches of late have been oatmeal with peanut butter and maple syrup? We got snowed in with a distinct lack of vegetables... but there's always oatmeal and peanut butter in the cupboard! :)

  2. You know I love rice. ;-) I'd love either of these two meals. I'm home and it's lunch time but there's nothing to eat in the kitchen. Hmmm... I have to find something.

    Have a great week.

  3. Hi KAt - Unfortunately, most lunches are pretty bad stuff from our Cafeteria.... or leftovers broguht from home. I prefer what you had! ;o)

  4. That bento looks so good for sooo cheap! I walked through Shirokiya's bento section on Saturday and didn't buy anything because they were like twice the price of the one you had!!!

  5. Oh boy...I see your rice pics then read that you're on a rice kick and what do I have to say? That I am absent-minded. A friend of ours gifted us with a small bag of top-quality carnaroli rice at a party yesterday, and I forgot it on the sofa! I guess no risotto for me then :-(

  7. I guess that would be my lunch too if I were snowed in Hannah :)

I hope you found something delicious Paz :)

I wish we had a cafeteria when I used to work in Waikiki, Kirk, it was pretty expensive to go out and buy.

    Wow, double is expensive Rick!

What? you forgot it?? bummer Rowena :( hope you at least at a delicious time at the party!

    Take care everyone!

  8. I have left overs for lunch - quiche, ham, rocket, cherry tomatoes - whatever hubby has put in the box for me. Yours look much nicer though. How I miss bento, especially ekiben!

  10. As usual, I am amazed by the wide variety of delicious bentos available in your shopping arcade. Is 480 yen considered a good buy for that type of bento?

Also, I am wondering if you still have your travel page up. I might travel to Japan this year and remember that it was very informative when I last looked at it. Perhaps you could provide a link?

    Thank you and happy eating!

Thanks Jalna, it would be perfect with your kon-kon!

Thanks Debinhawaii, I've been having soup too ;)

    Take care everyone!
