My cousin and I had planned to take our Grandma riding, but she wasn't feeling up to it so we decided to go ourselves.
We picked up some lunch at Tanioka's and headed out to the lagoons at Ko'Olina, out on the West side of Oahu.
Parking is free at the lagoons and hard to come by, but the stalls do open up every so often if you are patient or in our case, lucky.
For lunch, my cousin picked up their bento packed with teri-beef, mochiko chicken, a fish patty and many other delicious goodies.
I picked up the mochiko chicken musubi (I think this may be my fav) and this fukujinzuke musubi.
Fukujinzuke are the sweet pickles that they serve with curry in Japan. So this was a sweet/salty riceball...yum!
We also picked up their sweet potato haupia dessert to try.
I enjoyed their flaky macadamia nut crust and firm haupia.
It was a nice day. Not too windy, not too many evil birds out to get our food, not too many flies to bother us....but just right.
Mmm, dreamy dreamy day & photos. Also, that haupia looks so ONO! Glad to hear it also tasted ono :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sky, great eats, good company...you are living the sweet life in Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteKat, these photos are making me wish it was September already!! You idea of a picnic at a lagoon sounds like a perfect way to relax to me!

Take home plenty packets of NOH haupia mix. It's pretty good!
ReplyDeleteThe sky looks amazing! Sounds like it was a great day!
ReplyDeleteNate, NO! to those NOH packets for haupia, the time I tried it was pretty disappointing :(
ReplyDeleteIf you've never been to Hawaii K, you should definitely come soon!
Take care you two.

I never did hang out at Ko'Olina except for a wedding once. It looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots, Kat! They look like postcards or something in a travel brochure. I've seen sweet potato haupia on many different blogs now. I'm dying to try it. Looks so yummy :)
