Let's start with the good...
Ippudo in Ikeda brought back my favorite ramen, the Karakamen, a spicy tonkotsu broth topped with miso flavored ground beef and cashew nuts.
The bad part is when I reached to get a shot of my ramen, the camera literally flew out of my hands and part of it went *plop* into my ramen!
I was in shock for a few seconds before fishing it out.
Luckily, it wasn't the battery or memory card part of the camera that fell in, unluckily though it was the lens and lens cover...which is why my photo has a nice fuzzy texture to it.
After I got home, I wiped the camera down several times, hopefully it will be okay.
The weather has been flip-flopping between humid and cool.
Since I'm not much into standing by the stove these days, I threw together a wheatberry salad for dinner.
The good thing about this salad is that to cook the wheatberry and grain mixture, I threw everything into the rice cooker, which I totally loved because I didn't have to stand by the stove.
Recently, we had Jever Pilsner, a German brew.
Very bitter but really nice with all the nibbles and noshes we've been eating.
More good things than bad equals not so bad, hope your week is going well.
Oh no, hope your camera stays OK! Someone once told me to leave the camera completely off for a few days, to make sure every teeny micro-inch gets dry (just in any liquid dripped inside). At least the ramen looked yummy :)
ReplyDeleteLOL Kat! I always worry when I take a photo of soup, that I'll drop my camera in it. I'm glad nothing was terminally damaged.
ReplyDeleteOMG, that brings back memories!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, a friend and I were having lunch at Nadaban (not to be confused with Nadaman) in Kobe, and I dropped my then less-than-3-month-old camera in my kabocha soup!
Luckily, the camera was fine for the rest of lunch (and they were kind enough to replace my soup as though nothing had happened), but unluckily, once the kabocha soup dried up, it jammed the lens cover and I couldn't open the camera again. I think something else was damaged, too, because it cost me close to Y20 000 to have it fixed!
I hope your camera fares better than mine did. I think that you didn't have a cream soup will stand in your favour! :-)
Kat-I hope that your camera lens will be okay.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting to put cashews on top of the ramen.
Hope your camera is fine but thanks for the great story!! I think about it all the time but luckily haven't happened. The ramen photo looks mysterious and cool. :)
ReplyDeleteYou could try putting the camera in some dry rice. It works for cell phones that have gotten wet.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, and have been reading it for a couple of years.
Thanks Jude!
ReplyDeleteKeeping my fingers crossed Kirk!
Thanks Rona, I hope it will be okay too.
Thanks Genki, it is different but delicious.
I hope you get a chance to try Ippudo sometime Dennis!
Thanks for the great tip Lara and for being a loyal reader, so far my camera seems okay, but will keep your tip in mind.
Take care everyone.
Kat
LOL @ the camera story...I just have a mental picture of the 'plop' into the ramen. Since it was only the lens, I'm hoping for you that it will be fine.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your camera, Kat! I must say, that was truly a "close-up" shot of your ramen, huh?
ReplyDeleteWould you mind sharing your wheatberry salad recipe? I've never had wheatberry before and your salad looks delicious.
Glad you had a nice laugh of the story Indie.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenster, the wheatberry salad recipe is one I've used before from Ina Garten, this time for the dressing I used lemon, olive oil, a little sugar and dijon mustard (sorry no measurements). I added cucumber, tomato, onion, feta & olives to the cooked wheatberry, and grains which I cooked in the rice cooker...hope this makes sense.
Take care.
Kat
AHAHAHAHA!!! Hilarious. Sounds like something that I would do!
ReplyDeleteKnock wood that I haven't had that happen to my camera yet. Yikes!
ReplyDeletegosh I hope not Jalna, your cameras are way big!
ReplyDeletewould never wish it to happen to anyone Rowena!
Take care you two.
Kat
I have almost done that same thing so many times!
ReplyDelete;-) Hope it turns out OK.
crazy right? it seems okay for now Debinhawaii :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Kat
I don't remember where or how I found your blog, but it was probably because we were about to move to Japan for a short stay, just 3 months, and I wanted to know more about things Japanese. If you don't mind me asking, what city are you living in? My husband is a US engineer for Toyota and our son and myself came with him for a long business trip. We are living in Toyota City.
ReplyDeleteHi Britt,
ReplyDeleteWe are in Osaka prefecture in the city of Minoo. Hope you enjoy your stay in Japan :)
Take care.
