hawaii getaway

If you want to getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, drive out to Ko'Olina.

They have a great hotel which is now run by the Marriott. It used to be called Ihilani.

Now I think it is now called J.W. Marriott Ihilani.

We had the chance to spend 2 nights there and had a nice time.

For our first night, instead of getting all gussied up for dinner, we stayed indoors and brought our own food and drinks.

We tried several beers that Hapa|Hale recommended. (Thank you!)

Like Hair of Dog's Adam, a smoky world ale brewed in Oregon, this 10% alcohol beer was my favorite.

And Nogne's Sahti, a collaboration with a Norwegian and Swedish brewery, this 11% alcohol beer is murky and you'll instantly smell the honey that is used. It was different but nice to try. Satoshi said that this one was his favorite because he doesn't like dark beers.

We had bought an assortment of poke as well as a tray of maguro sashimi from Tanioka's, the lady at the register was nice enough to throw in some mochiko fish pieces too.

A salad from Aloha Salads, this particular one had gorgonzola, mango, cranberries, apple, candied walnuts and a tart passion fruit vinaigrette.

There was also a nice fruit plate from the hotel (Thank you!)

Rounding out all that food was a beautiful sunset.

  1. I still call it the Ihilani :) Looks like a lovely feast - the hair of the dog brew is fantastic stuff. And that Tanioka's poke looks YUM! (their stuff always looks good)

  10. That meal rivals anything that you could possibly order after gussy-ing up to go out. My god....my jaw is like dropping to the ground right now (didn't eat breakfast yet!).
