Day 2 started with spam musubis that had bought from Tanioka's the night before.
It wasn't quite enough for breakfast, so we headed across the street from Ihilani to check out the newly opened Island Country Markets (which is run by ABC Stores).
I bought my first try of OIKOS Greek Yogurt, interesting vanilla taste but still delicious.
And a Hostess cupcake.
Coffee is only .99, they also serve Starbucks at a higher price.
Satoshi bought an egg salad sandwich and had one of the cupcakes.
After breakfast and some lounging around, we headed out to Kahuku.
It had been two years since I tried Romy's, which I wrote about here and wanted Satoshi to try them too.
This time around Satoshi tried their Garlic Prawns, he loved it so much he ate them shell and all! ($12.75+tax)
I had their fried shrimp with sweet chili sauce, which I had tried before....loved it! ($12.75+tax)
The price seems to have gone up a dollar but it is still delicious and worth the wait for your item to come out!
For dinner we decided to do a pupu style like the evening before.
We had some Heineken (from the hotel, thank you!), some poke which we picked up from Poke Stop...man, that place is expensive!
Good but expensive. We tried their blackened ahi poke, furikake salmon poke and some wasabi tako.
Apparently the Furikake poke was featured on the FN (Food Network)'s "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives".
Another salad from Aloha Salads, this time was their Mediterranean. We loved the flavors of this one with feta, olives and and a tangy dressing.
The nice thing about Aloha Salads is that they use a lot of local produce as well as local herbs as much as possible.
Another beautiful sunset to end a nice day and then we checked out the ice cream shop across the street from the hotel which had recently opened called "Two Scoops"...they serve Dave's Ice cream and it was delish! Hawaiian Mud Pie & Chocolate Macadamia.
All in all, it was nice to getaway, without having to actually go off island.

Hey Kat - Sounds like a yummy time! LOL on that hostess cupcake. We almost went to Poke Stop on our last trip home, but a very reputable source of ours told me that it wasn't worth the price. Luckily we went to Tanioka's instead.
ReplyDeleteBroke-da-mout' ono-licious. Those garlic prawns....oh man, I wanna eat garlic shrimp now!
ReplyDeleteI kinda thought they might be overpriced too Kirk, should've listened to my inner-foodie!
