After French class last Tuesday, I had lunch at Standard Bookstore located in NU Chayamachi Plus.
I tried their chili dog & drink set...840 yen.
There is no table service, after ordering at the counter, they give you a number and when your order is ready, you go back to the counter to pick up your food.
Everything on a silver tray (fancy, yeah?!)
The chili wasn't too spicy, and could have been spicier. The hot dog had a nice snap and the red onions had a bite to it...the onion flavor (read onion breath) stayed with me for a long time afterwards.
What surprised me was the scoop of whipped potatoes...ice cold, buttery, smooth and delicious. (It is rare to find mashed potatoes in Japan, not even KFC serves it here.)
Another thing that surprised me was the "American" sized coffee.
I am looking forward to trying more items on their menu and a nice thing is that they also have free WI-FI....I'll definitely be back.

It's funny how much I can relate to your comment... I am becoming more Americanized than I thought. Yeah considering the food portion, the coffee size is huge! That size got to be large at least in Japan (medium here?) and hot dog is more like Japanese size...and spicy level too, that I prefer less spicy anyway.... I was surprised and actually dislike that KFC here has mashed potatoes not french fries as option!!! And no burger.... that's the best part in Japanese KFC for me. =) This food fo Y800 seems expensive, especially current rate, we're paying this for over $10... hmm..
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice lunch at the bookstore! I love mashed potatoes :o)
ReplyDeleteActually now that I think about it- is this an actual bookstore or is it just the name of the restaurant? haha!
ReplyDeletelol Nami, when I first came to Japan, I was bummed that KFC didn't serve mashed potatoes. Price wise, it includes the drink, so in Japan, I think it is reasonable :)
ReplyDeleteK, it is an actual bookstore (though they don't sell the "popular" stuff", so they say)
Take care you two.
Kat
Hi, Sounds good but a bit expensive.
ReplyDeleteAt 840 yen that actually sounds pretty reasonable. Okay, I better get moving on my hot dog experiment soon...
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave63, in the U.S. (especially NYC) this meal would definitely be overpriced, but here, it is about right.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rowena, looking forward to your experiments :)
Take care you two.

Hi Kat - How large is an American sized coffee.... I'm just kinda wondering.....
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, american sized would be about 16oz or so Kirk.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
