Dunno if they have this type of thing in the States, but I love Japan because they have things like this.
You don't need to open a whole can of tomato paste, a packet is 1 tablespoon.
Sure, it isn't environmentally friendly, but when you only need 1 tablespoon for a recipe, it sure is convenient.
In fact, if I were to buy a can of tomato paste it would probably cost me more because I've only seen cans of tomato paste at the import markets.
This box has 6 packets and was only 158 yen, what a deal.
My unused tomato paste would often go to waste. This is smart.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a love/hate relationship with those tomato paste packets! Very convenient but there were times when I did need a whole jar. I think (maybe?) I used to buy a bulk container of tomato paste cans from Costco in Osaka and have them on hand, but I used these one T packets for everyday use. And now sometimes I get really frustrated in American supermarkets because there is nothing similar.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great idea. I am always forced to think of ways to use the rest of my tomato paste before it goes bad. I would love to be able to buy it like that.
ReplyDeleteYes, we have this in Australia now. It is a good idea for a small amount of tomato paste. We still use quite a lot so prefer the jar which we keep fresh by topping up with good olive oil.
ReplyDeleteJapan Australia
Great idea. I haven't seen them here in Australia.
ReplyDeleteI think that's smart too. Except I want it to have 3 Tbsp. That's usually what I need.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely for you then Dennis :)
ReplyDeleteAbigail, I think more Japanese recipes only use 1 tablespoon, which would get frustrating in America.
I hope you get something like this where you live Anon :)
Interesting J-A!
Thanks Barbara, hopefully one day soon they will be in Australia :)
Hope you can find something close to your needs Little Foodie :)
Take care everyone!

Oh, these would be so handy! I can find a tube of tomato paste, but I still have to toss it before it's all gone~
ReplyDeleteIt's a great idea. I buy the tubes for the same reason--I waste the cans and never get around to freezing the extra so it goes bad. ;-)
ReplyDeleteooh yeah, I had forgotten about the tube type Lizzy & Deb :)
ReplyDeleteTake care you two.
Kat
I'm a tomato tube paste user too. Odd how I can go through lots of tomato sauce and canned tomatoes, but the paste lasts forever!
ReplyDeletetotally forgot about the tube type Rowena :p
ReplyDeleteindeed K!
Take care you two.
Kat
Hi Kat - I've started buying tubes of double concentrated tomato paste and will use that unless I know I'm going to need an entire can.
ReplyDeleteI hope this product goes worldwide Kirk :)
ReplyDeleteTake care.
