expiry dates

I recently learned something new about the expiry dates on eggs...

The date that is on the carton or directly on the egg is the date that you need to eat the egg if you are going to be eating them raw.

Many people eat raw eggs here as T.K.G. (tamago kake gohan) --putting a raw egg onto hot rice. And also when eating sukiyaki, they dip their meat/veggies into a raw scrambled egg.

If you will be cooking the eggs they apparently can be used after the expiry date.

Cool, yeah?!

  1. Hi Kat! Nice to know, Jalna got me some of those Waimanalo eggs she blogged about earlier, but not sure if I can eat it raw, I like mine a little cooked. :) Mich
