cutting the cord

While a lot of people have "cut the cord" opting to watch videos and such online instead of through a cable network, we are one or two steps behind technology and just signed up for cable.

The one and only free channel that offers programs in English here will no longer be available after March 2020...so we decided to subscribe to cable.

And while we don't really need 50 channels, it is fun discovering all the different types of shows & channels out there.

Earlier this week, I found some foodie movies..like "The Chef" (french title: "Comme Un Chef"), which I saw back in 2012.

While watching this movie I realized I had forgotten the story, this was quite a fun movie.

"Haute Cuisine" (french title: "Les Saveurs du Palais")

Another movie I had seen in 2012...I had thought there were not many food scenes but watching it again found there were quite a lot.

"Mostly Martha"...I had seen "No Reservations" with Catherine Zeta-Jones and this German version is actually the original.

The only problems I have watching these types of foreign films is that the subtitles are in Japanese.

I can't read Japanese too quickly, so it is a challenge trying to read the Japanese subtitles and listening to the foreign language...still I enjoyed these films.

Have you cut the cord? or do you still subscribe to cable?

  1. we have a Spectrum package. Can't say "deal" because, $$$$! covers landline, internet and TV. The only TV I usually watch is the local news in the morning when I'm putting my face on. I can't even say "watch" because my back it turned towards the tv and I'm only listening. LOL, I should just get a radio.
    Kdrama addict!

  3. I love all three of those movies, but especially Haute Cuisine because of that salmon-cabbage dish! oh, and we have been cord snippers from the get-go, and we'll keep amazon prime video since it's cheap (36€/year) and the perks of 2-day delivery, amazon pantry and ebooks for kindle are less than kobo.

  4. Glad you're enjoying cable. We're still somewhat stuck with basic cable after downgrading a few years back because if we want the discounts for phone and internet it still has to be a bundle. Honestly I haven't watched live tv in years but my husband insists on keeping it, for the "news". I laughed at him because our local ABC affiliate has its own app and you can watch live news on that. It's gotten to a point that everything we watched is streamed. Besides I have no patience for commercials anymore.

  6. Amy that is interesting about your husband keeping the cable for the news...too bad they won't let you just keep the phone and internet bundled without the tv :)

    Take care!
