this and that

my “ritual”
after dentist appointments is to go to Shake Shack for lunch...

since Satoshi was with me on this day, he ordered the curry shack (the burger was topped with curry), he said he enjoyed this.

I usually order the chicken shack and no fries, since the sandwich already has a fried chicken in it, but since Satoshi was with me, and he wanted fries, I ordered the regular shack burger.

The shopping mall near Shake Shack had a Fukushima Fair, so we purchased some peaches.

4 for 1000 yen (tax included)

Akatsuki is the variety name and these were firmer than what we were used to.

I'm glad we were able to try these.

The day before Doyo no ushi no hi...unagi day...we had this with some of the soba we received from V.

Delicious!

Humongous beet...575 grams (about 1.2 pounds)...only 99 yen (plus tax)!

I swear Japan still does not know the value of beets..

On Sunday, was the true doyo no ushi no hi, unagi day, I wanted to make u-maki ("ooh-mah-key" where the unagi is rolled in the tamagoyaki (rolled omelette), but wasn't willing to use more than 3 eggs, so we ended up eating it as u-nose ("ooh-know-say" unagi placed on top of an omelette)…just as tasty!

Roasted the beet then put it into different pickle juices...

umeshuzuke, myoga amasuzuke & pickled onion (which was originally pickled beet juice)

Hope these taste good!

Spotted this furry one in the window of the condo that blocks most of our view of Mount Fuji.
Circumhorizontal arc...it was cool to see!

Love this musubi from Family Mart, it has konbu and tuna mayo in it.

The package reminded me of Mount Fuji too.

Most times I am disappointed with musubi from the convenience store because the filling is so skimpy, but this was filled to the gills!

Blueberry banana bread from Dean & Deluca...so ono!
Nectarine season, these were yellow inside, glad we got to try some this year.

There was a traffic jam up the stairs to the church, because they had all the food vendors right at the top of the stairs...poor planning!

It was our first time checking this out, it was too krazy crowded, so we went to say our prayers then left.

Typhoon 6 (Khanun) took its time wreaking havoc on Okinawa for over a week! in that time passing over Okinawa twice! and then heading to Korea…

And then we have Typhoon 7 (Lan) which is coming towards Honshu in the coming days, hoping there won’t be too much damage.

I think we will get lots of wind and rain even if we are not directly in its path.

And right behind Lan is Typhoon 8 (Dora) which I think is the same one that caused all the damage in Maui except now it isn’t a hurricane it is a typhoon.

Hoping the next couple of days won’t be too krazy.

    Can't remember if I told you but Nijiya, Times, and even Nico's sell unagi fillet already marinated in kabayaki sauce for about $17.99 but they're all from China or Taiwan. Nijiya sells Japan unagi fillet but for $40!
