They were “already” League champions...
I really don't care for this part of the season because CS allows the 3rd place team to play the 2nd place team, the winner goes up against the 1st place team and whoever wins goes on to play in the Nihon Series (NS) (like the World Series).
You outright win your league and there could be a chance you don't advance to the Nihon Series due to these CS play offs...
NPB says these play offs are supposed to be similar to MLB's division play offs, well, there are WAY more teams in MLB, which is why MLB needs play offs...
Both leagues (Central and Pacific) have finished their CS but now we need to wait a whole week before the Nihon Series even starts?!

i remember being on the subway and lots of riders must have been going to a Hanshin game because they have tiger makeup on their faces and wearing team shirts, etc. Several guys were dressed in full tiger costumes. so cute.

Extra postseason rounds = extra bucks! MLB isn't at all concerned about the integrity of the regular season as long as they ca$h in that sweet, sweet postseason action. NPB's postseason rounds are at least a little more fair (e.g. higher seed gets a win in the bank). Unfortunately, the biz of it all means we'll never be going backwards to just the league champs going at it.

Would LOVE to watch, especially since the World Series concluded a couple days ago. Game time is 11:30 PM *my* time so unlikely I'll be able to hack the entire contest, even if I can find a watchable video stream online...
