caferia

There is this really old coffee shop near the Hatanodai Station.

I had thought they weren't in business until I saw them on a television show...

Upstairs the shop is quite spacious.
Loved all the retro sugar containers and cute cyclamen plant on the table!
Satoshi had their napolitan, this came with a salad and coffee or tea...980 yen (tax included).

He said he enjoyed this.

I ordered their pizza toast, this also came with a salad and coffee or tea...900 yen (tax included).

The salad was shredded cabbage topped with some macaroni salad and a little shoyu...it brought back memories of how growing up we used to eat veggies sometimes with shoyu and mayo...

Look at how thick the toast is!

I wished the onions were more "cooked" because they still had a little "bite", but overall this was delicious.

We'll be back whenever we are in this area.

okita seimai

Last Thursday, I went to Hatanodai.

On most Thursdays, I buy something for Satoshi's Friday bento, so that I have "a day off".

The bento I bought for Satoshi looked like this one but had a piece of salmon instead.
Whenever I go to Okita Seimai, I usually buy musubi to eat with my bento, but they are not making them during this pandemic.

I think it is because their kitchen area is quite small and they are trying to prevent crowding.

So instead of a musubi, I instead picked up their ohagi...can you believe there are 2 ohagi under all that sweet bean paste?!
I ate 1 and kept the other one for Satoshi.

Over the past week, Tokyo's case numbers have risen and it doesn't look like the people in charge have "a plan" and only want the economy to get back on track...sigh.

A "nice" thing was that the temps were similar to May over the past couple of days, which means we actually needed warmer clothing, but at least there was little humidity.

Satoshi will be working from home this week and we will continue stay at home as much as possible.

Hope everyone has a safe week.

miraian

Have been wanting to try the sozai (pre-made foods) from Miraian, but every time I have gone to Hatanodai, they weren't open yet.

Since I had already picked up some other items for lunch from another shop, I only picked up their croquette to try.

Very thick but fried perfectly.

Potato based with a little ground beef here and there.

I am glad I got to try them and will pick up a bento the next time I am in the area (hopefully they will be open).

okita seimai

I had gone to Hatanodai station to visit Otto Pan, to see if they were selling stollen...they weren't...boo!

So as I was walking towards Nagahara, I stumbled upon Okita Seimei.

This shop has been in business since 1921! selling rice.

Then, when the 4th generation took the business over, besides rice, they started selling bento and sweets made from rice.

Their tenmusu (short for tempura musubi) is a tempura shrimp drizzled with a little soy based sauce then wrapped with rice and nori....I should have bought more.

Namasu and sunomono were delicious as well.

I also bought millet ohagi...cooked millet covered with kinako (soy bean powder)...so good!

While I was standing in line, a lady, a few customers ahead of me received coupons for the shopping arcade...as she was leaving, she asked me if I could to use her coupons.

Since I don't live in the area, I thought it would be wasteful to accept it so I refused.

Then after I purchased my bento and was walking through the shopping arcade, another lady, who was the customer in line in front of me, stopped me to ask if I could use those similar coupons, I thanked her but told her I don't live in the area...so funny yeah?!

They had so many okazu (prepared foods) to choose from, I'll be back when I am in the area.
